Truck Camping Photo Thread

Driving portions of the Oregon Backcountry Discovery route.

 

No picture of the truck in this one. I take my kids camping every father's day weekend. Usually we go to a spot by Twin Lakes, CO. About halfway there I found out that some lovely human failed to put out their campfire and there was now a forest fire. The camp site is on the other side of the ridge and under pre-evacuation. So me being a person who likes to avoid doing dumb things had to call an audible mid-drive.

Back to BLM land outside of Great Sand Dunes. What was supposed to be a 2.5 hour drive turned into 5.5 hours. I didn't want to come back here with the girls because the bugs are pretty bad, but we went sight seeing in the mornings and they hung out in the camper until dusk when the bugs go away.

I like to think I handled the situation better than most adults would. The kids still had a blast, so all in all, success.

That fire is the south side of the lake, correct?. I have a trip planned for early Sept and one of the spots along the Mt Elbert East Ridge TH was where I was shooting for, which is hte north side of the lake.

 

A cozy night at camp. Set-up in a haste during a rain break in a rainy afternoon. I was fortunate to complete set-up and make it inside before further rain.

Spent last week in Wyoming, Montana, and South Dakota. These were the most scenic spots

 

Mind PM'ing me your locations? WY and MT are frequents of ours, and SD is always a travel through state for us, but finding some nice places other than the badlands would be nice to break up our days.

Is this near the Mogollian Rim? The terrain looks vaguely familiar.

 

Carlsbad State Beach? If so, nice grab. Good swell the past week or so.
