Interesting, I’m considering doing the same with my stock electric case behind it. Any more info on your shift boot? Looks cleaner than most I’ve seen.

Shift boot is a FJC manual boot, they had J-shift cases. The beauty boot is my stock boot, with a piece of another grey boot slipped on after I slit my stock boot. I need to get someone with a sewing machine to sew it up.

Okay that makes sense that you made the beauty boot yourself instead of purchasing one with two sections. Thanks! And the fj boot fits underneath no issues. Thanks!

Check my build thread...too much to list.
Called NW Fab up and had a chat about my plan and seems as though I'll be fine. Placed my order and now it's time for the waiting game.

looking at EcoCrawler for 2nd gen manual and trying to figure out what donor case is needed

I heard basically any FJ whether manual or auto trans
That it has to come from a manually shifting tcase (which is FJ) and not auto shifting tcase (Taco)

does anyone know if there is a way to make the factory tcase 4:1 like a Jeep Rubicon instead of Toyota 2.57:1?
That seems like another good way of doing it. I don’t know why Toyota chose 2.57:1 and not 4:1.

never heard of a Jeep failure with it and they say 4:1 crawls much better without the need for a crawlbox.

another option is dedicated crawler gear that the Bronco has but that doesn’t sound possible to do.
I’m guessing the only folks that could end up adding that is basically new Ford Ranger guys when Broncos of that type end up crashed and in junkyards.

If you're a manual trans 2nd gen, you will actually need to use your 22 spline input out of the electronic shift in your truck as a donor and either separately purchase the ring gear, shift collar, and a few other parts to build the NWF box or cannibalize them out of an FJ case. If you do the latter, you will be left with parts to put together a taco case with a 23 spline input for an auto that you can then put behind the NWf box, or sell it to buy another FJ case out of and auto to go behind the NWF. It just depends on wether you want to keep the electronics or not.

I dont think you want the AWD case out of the manual FJ as a donor for your application since it won't leave you with the 23 spline input you need to put behind the nwf box. Fj case from an auto is your best donor, in my opinion, because it gives you options. They need to stop telling the manual trans guys that their electronic tcases are bad donors because you absolutely need the input out of them.

NwFs website was pretty good at listing what works. You could also call if you have a specific case in mind and want to confirm to will work. I highly recommend you speak with someone before ordering.

There are no options for a 4.x ratio in Toyota chain drive cases that im aware of.

It’s really easy to convert the stock case to a manual shift 4:1. Remove the stock case and throw it in a dumpster and install an Atlas 4:1.

Best donor is a J-shift case out of a 4runner or tacoma. I don't know the years off the top of my head but I think it's 2002 and newer. However, not all 02' and newer manual shift cases are the same.

I'm in a manual trans 2nd gen... An fj case is great for the rear case, not the donor. You can get a cheaper donor by buying a VF2 J-shift case. The input for your truck will be installed in front of the NWF case as part of the regular install directions.

I just extended the wires in my stock case, that way I could have a really clean install with a FJ shift boot.

I picked a spade top shift vf2 as donnor for my j shifted vf2a Truck. Went j pattern when I converted this thing. Called them yesterday to add something to my order. Will be receiving the revised lid/top VF4 EC in about 4 more weeks. Pumped!!!

Hey all. About to tear into my two donor cases and get this all put together.

Curious if there’s a list of seals/gaskets people are replacing when doing this listed anywhere?

Just be careful upon removal of the bearing retainer that will be re used to seal at the transmission side and use permatex “the right stuff” while sealing the surfaces.
