Our trucks have 1234yf refrigerant in them. A lot more expensive

Do not put R134 in your 2018. It takes a different refrigerant - R1234yf. IMO, this is a job for a qualified shop. You have to make sure the amount of refrigerant is right or you will have issues - up to and including blowing holes in condensers and lines. That gets expensive very fast.

I wasn't sure when they switched over. That is expensive :annoyed:

Of course it's more expensive, Honeywell & DuPont have the patents. :frusty:

It shouldn't be leaking after 6 years. I still have the original charge in my 2012.

I guess they switched over 2016~2017. Haven't had to work on any, yet.

Damn, now I have to get a new gauge manifold.

Now R134a prices are going up like R12 did. Ah, the days of R12, lol. Thanks EPA.

They crash a train full of chemicals & then you are nowhere to be found.

I thought the same thing but have chalked it up to not using it. I was born and raised without A/C in the house or cars... guess its time to continue the tradition. LOL

I might kick around the idea of getting that expensive can of stuff, but after hearing it could cause issues if not done right, I think I will reconsider. I AM that person that if shits gonna go wrong, it will happen to this guy!

Freon also in a very small amount, escapes through rubber hoses. Talking over years.

Interesting, is the AC port different for the different refrigerants? like it is for 22 and 134? If they are not compatible, then it would be stupid to not make the ports idiot proof.

I just looked up the details on mine couple days ago, mine went bad at 6years at 70k miles, and the truck is an 09. I still have the truck, but two years ago pulled the motor because the exh. manifolds rotted off. at that point the AC had died from corrosion of the aluminum parts, and i only use the truck during the winter, so I removed the AC while the engine was out. Was still working only a few years ago though, and the clutch cost me $50.

Do check that it is the clutch that went bad though. A couple years after replacing the clutch, I had a leak, it was an aluminum tube across the front of the motor, that corroded through at a steel clamp. looking close, could see the AC oil. The clutch is easy to see if it is working, I think I explained above somewhere.

    Best of luck!
