    Wait.
Is it just the batteries that are bad? and are they the ones with the post that goes up into the tool?
I think I know a guy who came across a bunch of those old type batteries still good.

For the lighter duty stuff inside the house.
A 12v Bosch is good enough for me.

But this is the Badger state, Go big RED!
Also the home state of Milwaukee!
    And beer, that's important too.

Makita, Milwaukee, and Dewalt are all good tools. Honestly, even Ryobi is good for medium duty use.

I'd go to Home Depot and check them all out. Buy what feels best in your hand, or whatever is the best value. All 3 will get the job done for you.

Also, with newer battery technology and brushless motors, don't disregard the 12V options. Most 12V drills now are probably more powerful than most 18V options were 20 years ago. I recently picked up a Milwaukee Fuel 12V drill kit, and am pretty impressed with the power!

    Both great points!

Problem I have is Fkng Metro Market. I swear the cheese buyer there hates Swiss Cheese. They have every cheese under the sun. I even got Mango cheese there yesterday! Baby Swiss? Regular Swiss? Not happening.

Or just take a 12v. Drill some holes in a block of Monterey Jack. Close your eyes and pretend it's swiss.

    (It's probably California cheese)

James advice is spot on. For everyday at work use I'm team RED. Also easier to swallow the price when it's on the company credit card. For home use Ryobi or even the Ridged Home Depot house brand is fine.
I would say think less about the tool and more about the battery ecosystem as that is what you are buying into long term. Ryobi sure has a lot of toys that use their batteries.

Milwaukee stuff is a bit more drill than I need, but I'm not ruling it out. My bigger projects are well behind me. The weekly/monthly use is a thing of the past. As long as it will drill big enough holes when I need it to, I'm good. I'll stop at Home Depot tomorrow.

I'm on team Red - Baur (Harbor Freight). Cheaper than all of the above and will probably outlive me. Oh, and they do everything I've asked of them. I don't use my tools as much as I did (especially when I raced ), so the above statement will probably hold true.

edit: I have a drill, 2 impacts, and a weed trimmer. As with the others...same battery for all.

Isn't that usually the case? That's the reason I wound up switching from Milwaukee...the cost of re-entry.
