It's kind of a cool idea, but it reminds me of IKEA furniture.

Is there an elegant way to attach a cargo rail where the seat backs are? I am eyeing a Taco extended cab TRD Offroad as a replacement for my JK Wrangler, if I do it the back seats are most definitely coming out. Not dropping $800 on the Goose Gear stuff, it looks nice but this waaay too much $$$ for what it is, will go the same way at @513Mugsy. On my Wrangler I have a cargo rail mounted behind the fron seats, attached to the bqack panel of a Tuffy box. I strap two jerry cans there, one for gas, one for water, and also keep misc offroad stuff back there - sand ramps, camp table and chair, compressor, etc.

That sounds like a lot of stuff that I would put in the bed of the truck. If you truck doesn’t have the front track, you can add one for like $40. It’s an OEM part that bolts right in

I’m sure you could put some track in the cab if you wanted. I’d get some etrack and rivnuts. That’s probably the easiest.

    Thanks for the insights.

One of the main reasons I am looking to ditch the Wrangler for a Tacoma is to have an enclosed sleeping space. I do landscape photography as a hobby, and very often I will shoot till late, be at my camp late (after 10pm in the summer months) and will need to scamper early (sometimes 3-4am) the next morning. Putting up and tearing down a tent, inflating and deflating pads is a hassle that gets old after a few days. When I do end up getting a Tacoma I will for sure put a cap on it. That will make getting to the front rack in the bed somewhat of a chore, particulrly for fairly heavy stuff that it needed on a nearly daily basis, such as a water can.

The things I usually keep in the Wrangler cabin are pretty compact, after years of doing this I have the process down. The space is in an extended cab is actually larger than that in the Wrangler with a Tuffy box by a factor of 2 or 3, so I will have plenty of space. Will keep the bed oriented towards sleep, clothes/hiking gear, etc. Camera gear will need to stay in the cab, the locking mechanism on all the caps looks too flimsy to comfortaby leave several thousand dollars worth of gear there, and I am not looking to put a large locking box back there that will compromise the sleeping arrangements.

At this point I am debating whether to just wait for the redesign of the 4runner, but that seems to be getting pushed out and I don't want to buy a 1st model year of anything, even if it is a Toyota.

This is what is behind the back panel. Definitely could find a way to attach a rail to some of the metal there.

You’ll definitely want some sound dampening or something unless you want to go insane

Oh yeah, I took it for a spin before I put the deadening, new panel and Goose Gear platforms back in. Significantly more noise with just the bare metal.

You have never driven a Wrangler, I see :) One of the reasons I am looking to ditch it. As nice as it is on the trail, the rest of the time it is pure insanity, in more ways than one

That reinforcement bar in the middle of the panel looks to be the perfect height for attaching a rail to. Thanks

Agreed. I had one before switching to a Cherokee. Great for a second fun vehicle but really utilitarian. Noisy, clunky, hot in summer and cold in winter. No room for anything. Sure was fun though.

Has anyone installed the full rear seat delete in a 2021 SR5? I I have it somewhat installed but about 75% of the holes on the Goose Gear boards don’t line up with any holes in the truck (not an adjustment issue, like…there are no holes anywhere near the goose gear holes). I’m also having an issue where about half the bolts only screw half-way in.

I just spent all day trying to install it and I still can’t drive my truck because the rear wall panels are flapping all over the place because the screws won’t go in all the way or there are no holes to line the goose gear panels up with.

Picture of how far along I am:

    IMG_9831.jpg

It looks good but the back wall panels are flapping around like two pieces of paper. If anyone has experiences either of these issues and can help me out, I would be SO thankful. I don’t want to think that I wasted all this money and time on something I’m just going to have to remove. It almost seems like my truck was built differently but the product clearly fits.

I’ve watched all the videos and read all the instructions out there and I am beyond frustrated.

that's weird - should just bolt right up. You sure you used the right length bolts in the right places? or that you have the right hardware from Goose Gear to begin with? Some of them on the back wall have quite the distance to go before they hit the metal of the truck. Might be worth pulling it all out and staring over

You definitely hit the nail on the head with both suggestions. I know that some of the hardware is not original because I bought it used (the seller told me that he swapped some of the hardware because the original screws were stripped, so totally fine) and I did just pull the entire thing. I’m thinking I might hit up Goose Gear and see if I can buy just the hardware.

I just don’t get the holes not lining up in all the places. Can anyone enlighten me on where the spot is that the sound deadening needs to be cut? They show two little photos that are super zoomed in on their website, but they don’t explain where those two spots are in relation to the entire back seat.

It’s been a while, but if I remember - they don’t want you covering up the rear wall breather vents. Don’t cover them and you’re good to go

let us know how the new hardware works out

Will do! Thanks for the advice and info.

It’s wild to me that they don’t have some sort of PDF instruction booklet online and that their website just links to that 8 min. YouTube video that glances over most of the important stuff.

Yeah that part’s not great. The kit is top notch though. Good luck

Just message goose gear. They are pretty responsive and sent me a bag of hardware when I stripped out a screw or two installing mine

maybe try loosing some of the bolts you have tightened and see if that helps lining things up. I ordered mine at different times so one side was misaligned where you slide the little flange and bolt into the 80/20 on the bottom. My other side when I ordered a month or so later had no issues. And for some reason I got a hardware kit for a subaru for some reason.
