Not one tiny bit. Do NOT want an undersized and over-taxed turbo 4 cyl. Turbo-charged engines don't have near the longevity of normally aspirated.
I don't NEED more bells and whistles... It's a GD TRUCK fer chirissakes.
I think Toyota has made a HUGE mistake, and we shall see....

I picked up my 3rd Gen about a month after the 4th gen was officially unveiled. I knew what I could’ve had if I waited, but I didn’t want to. I was also expected a hefty price hike that would put it out of my price range.

I’ve test driven a 4th gen and the driving position and seat in it both feel great, I can see myself buying one. I’ve owned high-strung turbocharged cars before and that doesn’t scare me.

But I’d have to spend at least 45k to have an equivalent spec to my 38k 3rd gen. And that’s a no from me dawg.

I jumped ship to Ford, I still hangout here because I love all you snarky bastards so much!
Plus the Ford forums blow chunks. They’re nicer than you guys; the vile hatred on the 4G forum is pretty crazy.

    No.
Even bigger, taller, wider, longer and heavier than my new 2023, which is already too big, too....

2023 is the end of the 3.5L line, and the current body.
2024 is all new, smaller engines with turbos (ugh) and batteries.
    All are deal breakers.

My daughter's 2005 Prius has been a massive headache from day 1.
Battery failures, catalytic thefts, instrument cluster burned up, ad nauseum.

I will not own a battery powered nightmare under any circumstances.
I am told that 95% of all EVs are still on the road... the other 5% made it home safe.
Then there is the fire risk, the jaws of life problems with cables and batteries...

    Nope.

Gen4’s a handsome truck, improved in many ways, but also in need of further refinement.

Its biggest flaw is just that the sum of improvements over Gen3 from all those brand new parts isn’t worth all the extra dough you have to pay to get them.

That, and the Ranger is also a big problem for Toyota.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with the Fourth Gen; for those who have one and enjoy it, great! But the price of the Fourth Gen is high enough that I would get a full size instead.

If someone wiped out my 2nd gen 5 lug (which is functionally perfect for my needs, an important thing to me) I'd either shop another one or a hybrid Maverick. *Maybe* a Stout, depending on if, when and final outcome.

I've never warmed to the looks of the 3g front end. I do think the 4g is better looking overall, but the size increase, extra tech and extra cost make it a non starter for me. I have plenty of other ways to enjoy my $ than putting it into a depreciating item.

I hope buyers find it as enjoyable, durable, serviceable and operationally economical as I find my current truck.

I did think about it until I seen one in person and test drove it ..hated the body style and the 4cyl felt so weak . Then the real ball buster came out when I looked at the price … no way would I ever pay that for a mid size truck .

If I were shopping today I wouldn't hesitate to put a deposit down on a well optioned Off-Road with a 6MT. When I bought my 22 Pro 6MT everyone was speculating this would be the last year of the manual transmission. I'm still very happy with my truck and plan on keeping it for a good long time but it's nice to know the 4th gen will also suit my needs and also address some of the shortcomings of my current truck.

My 2019 TRD OR is paid for. 58,000 miles. 3" King Racing Lift & 33"s with a few other inconspicuous mods. Meticiulously maintained. Solid V6 3.5L naturally aspirated engine that is comically easy to service, even in the worst case scenario such as a timing chain. Southern climate, rust free truck.

No way. I'm driving this truck into my grave.

Not at the moment. Really happy with my 2020. I can see you in a 4th gen tho. No fear of a timing cover leak and it's a better daily driver from reviews I've seen.

Sorry, there is exactly zero evidence which suggests the Turbo-4 will be any less reliable compared to the current V6. Saying otherwise is just repeating oft-repeated internet tropes.

If I'm ever going to be interested in a 4th gen, it will be after the mid-generation refresh (2020 equivalent for 3rd gen). Guessing that will take place somewhere around 2029.

    By that point:

    1. My 3rd gen will theoretically be approaching 125-150k miles. Still trade-in territory for a Toyota.
    2. The 4th gen will have had 5 model years to figure stuff out.
    3. It will be just in time for WA state to ban gasoline vehicles the following year (we'll see how that pans out).
    4. Hybrid / electric systems will undoubtedly have improved.
    5. The mid-cycle refresh could bring some fancy doo-dads that aren't there now.

    Totally cool with waiting.

    No,
I spent my first two decades of driving, chasing that new toy,,, finally grew up, wisened up, and stopped that chase.
I paid my 2019 off over a year ago, it’s more enjoyable each time I drive it, as now I am driving my truck. While I’m certainly not happy at all with today’s taxes and insurance rates,,, I damn sure couldn’t imagine what those look like for new.

while i'm not arguing the point, didn't they discontinue that truck last year? i know sales were abysmal.

they pretty obviously followed the market research to what the majority of people want out of vehicles these days.

i don't agree with it, but then, i still listen to nickelback.
