    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
I’ll be willing to drive anything out of curiosity. Doesn’t mean I’ll want to own it though.

I do definitely want to test drive a 4th gen manual TRD Off-Road just to see how it is and develop a more solid opinion of that truck

I put a deposit down on my 2023 OR MT in March 2023 and I was convinced it was the last year of the stick. Then Toyota unveiled the 4th Gen stick 3 weeks later

Since I can’t get a 4th Gen Tacoma in the configuration I currently have (V6, Access Cab, 4x4, Sport) than I better get a huge 4th Gen discount to trade in and settle. I am fine with keeping my 2016 or getting a huge discount on a 4th Gen.

    No.

EDIT: I'm driving the exact Tacoma I wanted, the Tacoma 4 dealers told me I would never find much less own.

    No.
my 2016 just rolled 100K a few weeks ago and it's still running great, meets my needs.
I also cannot afford the price of the new G4 but even if i could, i don't have any reason to get rid of my truck, I'm happy with it. I'll save that money for some of the other curve balls life likes to throw unexpectedly.

Exactly, have a 2021 OR as well - that I pro styled (scoop hood, TRD skid plate, pro wheels, pro exhaust, upgraded shocks etc).

2028 (mid revise. Tundra is desperately needing there's - wow, what dumpster fire there - is there one looming for 4th gen tacoma?) is the smart patient play according to Tacoma history.... BUT what else waits us then? ;) WW3, serious inflation, hydrogen fueled (from ammonia) appearing (not an EV fan, let me count the ways - New Toyota CEO gets beat up, but he stood strong as "pee'd" all over EV as the best future path - God bless him)

Fingers crossed - that market forces and competition bring Tacoma's prices back to the pack, in couple years. Their pricing scheme is getting whacked daily on internet, YouTube, etc. Can't be falling on deaf ears at Toyota... or can it?

Nope! Don’t like the styling, hate that Toyota eliminated the access cab, not at all crazy about a turbo 4 banger, price is too high, poor color selection, won’t buy the first year of any vehicle because of the bugs.

I like the disk brakes all around, and the transition is not bad. However I would not trust the 4-turbo, nor the extra cooling the engine needs to operate.

Fuel consumption of the 2023 Tacoma TRD Off Road is not too bad compared to the 2024 TRD Off Road, specially during city driving and off roading, and maybe 2-3 MPG lesser for the 2023 versus the 2024 Model on the flat highway.

About the 2024' Tacoma cooling of both the engine and the transmission: notice that this should not be a great deal where I live at, since it gets very cold, although I would not risk driving it until the engine oil temperature and transmission fluid are warm enough (no idea about cool oil and turbo lubrication). Also I have seen at least one YouTube video of a guy living in CA where his new 2024 Tacoma had a problem with the louvers on the grill that failed to open, and the engine overheated and shut down.

All that said, I would not dissuade anybody from buying the lates model. But in my case I buy a car or truck that I plan to keep for a long time, usually just before the next generation once all the troubles with the engine and truck has been ironed out. Just look at what's happening to the newer 6-turbo used in the Tundra from 2022-2024.

I bought my Tacoma to serve a purpose...that purpose was 4wd and a long bed. If I want to drive "something different", I'll jump in the C8.

tl;dr: I tried to stay on topic and be reasonable. Devolved into unhinged rant instead. sorry.

Nope. My 2022 TRD Off Road Premium is still perfectly fine and is still brand new and nearly fully loaded (just missing the multi-terrain camera or whatever it's called). I paid $45 for it 2 years ago and I thought that was overpriced. A 4th gen base TRD Off Road short bed 8AT is around 44ish starting and it's missing some critical features that were standard on 3rd gen TRD Off Roads/V6 models. For 44k, I'm losing: power driver's seat, rear sliding glass, the "upgraded" JBL speakers, leather seats, heated seats, moon roof that my '22 has. It's also the first model year of a complete redesign and I would never recommend buying the first few years of a new gen. The 4cyl is pepper and has boatloads of torque, especially down low where the 2GR is desperately lacking, and a much better and smoother 8 speed (I've driven a few 4th gens briefly through rental companies) but the 4 cyl is still relatively new and unproven. On top of that, the looks and aesthetics of the 4th gen just hasn't grown on me. I like the simple, understated design of the 1st gen, the brawny, slightly more aggressive front end yet still relatively simple design of the 2nd gen, and the big macho boxiness of the 3rd gen with the perfect amount of body lines and contours. The new one is overly aggressive, over-designed, and and eye sore at some angles. The bedsides have that weird bulge/cave in curve, the front has that weird, stupid tear drop/runny mascara plastic vent under the headlights, and I don't even know wtf is going on with the rear bumper caps where it meets up with the bed side panel. The rear passenger windows in the double cabs are much smaller than the 3rd gen and it makes the whole cab look weirdly proportioned if that makes sense.

As for the interior, I'm glad it still has mostly buttons and switches for controls, but the smaller 8" screen (that I'm paying $44k for) is housed inside a weird trapezoid-like shape. The big 14" is surrounded by a perfectly rectangular housing and I don't know why Toyota is so allergic to just making the screen surrounds a perfect rectangle. The new Camry and Prius is perfectly 90 degrees on the left edge but slants down on the right edge, whyyyy? And the way the rear seats fold up, it's a cheap little strap wtffff? The Ranger just folds up and the hinge holds it in place. Toyota's cheaping out on so much, they won't even give us a locking hinge to hold the seat cushions in place... Nearly 30 years of Tacoma and to this day, still no rear vents, rear armrests, or standard rear defrosters. Don't even get me started on the rear defrosters. Ok fine, I'll get started on the rear defrosters. Nearly 30 years of Tacoma and we're finally getting rear defrosters in these trucks for the first time. Ever. But it's not even standard? That shit's been standard on most cars for as long as the 2nd gen Tundras were on sale- aka forever. But for 44k for a TRD Off Road, you not only lose power driver's seat, rear sliding glass, a proper hinge setup for the rear seat fold ups, but you don't even get rear defrosters? A feature that should be standard on every single vehicle sold in North America today. Seriously Toyota, this should be standard. Standard.

Oh boy, as I was typing this, I realize I started off trying to be reasonable on why I have no interest in the 4th gen but it just devolved into my ranting on every single issue I have with it. Yes I'm a Toyota fanboy, and more specifically a Tacoma fanboy, but unlike some people who are blindly faithful to their favorite brands (whether Toyotas or Chevy, or Jeeps, or Apple), I tend to be more critical of my favorite brands rather than vehemently defending them for all of their shortcomings. From the relatively short experience I've had with the 4th gen, I can say for sure the new powertrain is better in power delivery, refinement, and smoothness and the seating position and seats themselves are way better (for the front). The ride and handling is much improved as well (coil spring variants, haven't seen a leaf spring one yet) and the truck is quieter on road, too. It's basically an all around improvement on refinement from a driving and ride quality standpoint. Hell, even the backup camera resolution is way better. But that's about where it ends for the good stuff. The 4banger sounds like ass. The turbo sounds cool though, kinda reminds me of old cummins spooling up. kinda. The interior build quality doesn't necessarily feel better than my already trash-tier 3rd gen. Cheap, thin, flimsy plastics all around. All the stuff I mentioned above, and the fact that Toyota wants to charge forty-four thousand dollars for a truck that's missing features that were standard from the 3rd gen at the same price point? And the rear defrosters. Don't even get me started on the rear defros- okay okay forreal this time, I will not get started on the rear defrosters. But they should be god damn motherfucking standard. It feels like a one step forwards, three steps backwards type of deal with a better powertrain and worse every thing else. And again, we don't even know what the reliability will be like on these new engines. Toyota's been going through a rough patch lately with the grenading Tundra engines, G. Highlander/Lexus TX recalls, 2022-23 Tacoma axle nut recalls, the previous BZ4X wheels falling off recalls, and the complaints of Toyota build quality getting worse and worse with each new vehicle released, I'm hoping the 4 cyl turbos don't go the way of the V6TT. People are seriously questioning Toyota's reliability reputation nowadays, maybe they'll fix the Tundra engine issues and in 15 years, we'll look back and realize Toyota managed to make them ultra reliable just like the 5.7s. But who knows. For now, I say we wait and see how these little 4bangers do and how Toyota recovers from the V6TT Tundra catastrophe and hopefully improve build quality... I guess?

Also, Trailhunter "stuuu stuu stu" sounds from the desert air intake sounds awesome. Might be worth 65k for that alone- nope, nada. Fuck that pricing.
