Hey everyone! I did something super cool today. Went on a discovery flight at the Old Town wings and wheels show. Got a free hat, and the bug for flying! Looks like I’m going to be working some overtime! IMG_6711.jpg
Also saw this nice $800,000 commuter

Did some Bowling Ball Repair this week.
Figured you like to see some of the gouging that needs repair..

    This guy throws hard.
All the bad gouges need to be filled and smoothed.
    IMG_7936.jpg

    IMG_7936.jpg

All filled, smoothed, and polished ends up with a ball that runs true and reacts in the pocket .

    Finished ball on the right..

Everything has gotten out of hand expensive, planes aren’t an exception. The thing that’s really making me think hard about this is what the end game looks like. The license and training would be awesome, but could I ever afford a plane, even a little piper cub?

Flying hasn’t gotten expensive, it’s always been expensive. Everything has gotten more expensive with the recent inflation, but it wasn’t a cheap hobby 30 years ago and it won’t be a cheap hobby in 30 more years. If you can afford it go for it, it IS a fun hobby. I’ve always said most everyone can afford one expensive hobby, be it flying, boating, diving, rock crawling, skydiving, shooting, or whatever else that may be. Some with more means can afford to do two. Very few people can afford more than two. So make your pick(s) and spend your money wisely. An upside to flying as a hobby is that with a little more effort and a couple ratings you can turn your hobby into a fun side job to help pay for your flight time.

Sign up for a ground school if you haven’t gone through one yet. Lots to learn and you’ll make some good connections esp if it’s at a smaller, local airport. It’s amazing what you can do with a valid drivers license and a sport/recreational certificate.

If you’re close to the NH border, Hampton Airport has a nice program:
