    This ^^^^

Uber, walk, bike, hitch, but do NOT drive the truck. You now have both a transmission AND and engine issue.

You just doubled down on your freak out mode.

I'd just dump the engine oil and start over there while you're at it.

Expensive and time consuming lesson, but one you won't forget!

That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm going to dump all the oil replace it with fresh stuff and add a few quarts of transmission fluid until I can get it to the mechanic tomorrow. Expensive mistake.

Ouch. Good thing you figured it out before you ruined the transmission. And engine, you've got 12 quarts in it. Start all over but no reason to touch the oil filter.

Not being a jerk, but if you were measuring and looking at the fluid, didn't it look a bit red?

Best way to solve this from happening again is get a manual transmission, ha. Hope all goes well rectifying.

PSA. For all the guys who’ve done this, take a paint pen and mark the pan with an E and a T by the drain plugs. OP you’re not the first and definitely won’t be the last.

One other tip for checking the notoriously-bad dipsticks on some Toyota engines --

Let the truck sit overnight or at least 12-14 hours. This gives oil in the dipstick tube, on the dipstick itself, and up in the engine the time to fully drain down.

Pull the stick in one smooth, continous, but not fast movement after the truck has sat 12-14+ hours, and usually there is a very clear, easy-to-read oil level on at least one side of the stick.

It's only that first pull after sitting 12-14 hours that usually comes out clean, don't bother trying to wipe the stick, reinsert and check again. Subsequent checks are usually smeared and ambiguous.

Food for thought. I’ve had 5 Toyota trucks for a total of almost 3 million driven miles. Currently a 2015 w/150k and literally have never pulled a dipstick between oil changes.

    Seems like that's tempting fate.

My 2014 V6 w/ 80K miles burns zero oil but I check the dipstick weekly at least, just because I like seeing the oil level not change.

Update: The dealership parts was closed so I went to an auto parts store, picked up some tranny fluid. Got back home and realized I don't have a 24mm socket. Ran back up and bought one. Got back and realized my 1/2 socket is way to big to fit up in there. I said screw it, drained the engine oil (it was a LOT lol), replaced the oil, and scheduled a free tow truck for the morning to a nearby Toyota mechanic.

You might want to disconnect the battery so the tow truck driver and/or lot jockey at the shop doesn't try to drive the truck -- should slow them down enough to maybe realize there's no ATF in the transmission.

Better to pull the fuel pump control module fuse so they can at least get it in neutral without the manual bypass.

    Yeah.
Same. If there's no obvious leaks and no smoke from the exhaust, the oil is still in there.
