    If it was straight-cool and propane, would you still do a 3-ton? Also, is it a 2-story house? If so, I would do a 1.5-ton on each floor or possibly a 1.5-ton and a 2-ton, rather than a single system; I would never build a 2-story house over 1,500 square feet with only one central A/C system. My parents’ townhouse in Furlong, PA was like 2,300 square feet not including the finished basement. It had dual 2-ton Carrier central A/Cs matched with 40,000 BTU gas furnaces. My parents bought the house brand new in 2007, they sold it in 2016, and the last time I drove by the house earlier this year both of the Carriers from 2007 (visible from the street) were still there!

    Range turned out pretty good. Besides my brothers socom both magazines blew out the bottom. So we ended up single chambering it. Than we switched out the ishmash 223 I guess that how it's pronounced.

    @maxpower29

    The EPA started the phaseout of CFCs in 2009-2010. Our house was built in 2007. Our house had R-22 in both systems and they likely performed better on hotter days! :cool:

    The oldest houses in that neighborhood were built in 2004 and the newest were built in 2009-2010, so out of 386 townhomes, I’d say that probably 10 to 12 houses had R410a systems. The oldest houses in that neighborhood are now approaching twenty years old and a good number of them have had the A/Cs replaced in the last five to ten years, so those are now R410a, but that neighborhood was truly the end of an era in my opinion! :(

    We don’t have to cut ours when it’s green. One of the few benefits of living in a neighborhood with an HOA is that they take care of mowing the lawns…

    Yeah, I have a propane furnace. It kicks in when the temperature gets to 35 degrees and under.

    I personally don't think a heat pump is needed with gas heat, but if I had a house with propane I would want the heat pump just in case I run out of propane and the supplier can't come out in a timely manner. As for oil heat, I would want a heat pump just because heating oil is so expensive...

    Wow that seems way different than here. It's a 2 level plus basement. I can see putting mini splits in on the different floors but the ducted systems we never do more than one per house. Even in expensive 4000-5000 sqft houses they would do a single ducted 5ton and it would work fine. The difference is interesting

    The heat pump is more for the summer. It serves as my a.c. So it is necessary. Propane is cheap so you may have a point regarding the winter. I get a special rate from my electric provider for having a heat pump. There are many winter days where the temp is below 35, but I figure splitting the winter bewteen the 2 should make the furnace last longer.

    hey folks - i'm trying to buy a small tractor this week; Any weird PA-specific taxes and fees I should know about before buying? Any dealer-add-ons that are easily recognizable as 'ways to get my money' and not actually required at point of sale? Not for farming - just for property up-keep.
