In this day and age of self service checkout, it’s not a moral dilemma, it’s a strategy

 

Yeah, the Dollar General I usually go to installed self checkouts a few months ago.
Now, since a couple weeks ago, they have signs on them saying that:
"This Register is no Longer Self Checkout"

Not "Temporarily out of service" or some such.
Which suggests that they're giving up on them.
Though they haven't been removed yet

When those self checkouts first appeared some years ago, I wondered if they were such a good idea.
Personally, I didn't like them at first, but warmed up to them after awhile.
You didn't have to ring the bell for a poor overworked clerk to come ring up your stuff.

Dishonest people are one reason why we can't have nice things.

 

All the DG here have “Out of service” on them. Walmart claims theirs has AI smart enough to tell if you put the tag off a banana on a rump roast. I don’t put it to the test but I have my doubts

I get why there are parking rules ok, but carry a bunch of quarters or download this app is a choice I'm just not happy with. I don't carry pounds of quarters and I despise downloading apps for things I don't want! Surely there must be some other way to deal with parking than this!
