Switched power under dash?

Ok so I have searched for quite some time on this and have not found a solution. I installed my heated seats today and was looking for a fuse under the dash that would be switched power. I thought the power window fuse would work so I added an additional a circuit and to my surprise is is hot all the time. The seats work great but will stay on even when the truck is off. After much searching I couldn't find a good source of switched power to tap under the dash, what has everyone else done? Do I have to run power from the engine compartment to get a switched circuit?

 

I'm awful at wiring, so I never do my own. But dont the power outlets to turn off when the truck is off? Would that work?

 

12v outlet or I remember someone used the windsheild washer fuse to power a dash cam. Maybe look into those. Are you using add a fuse taps?

 

So I'm trying to tap a fuse, I thought the power window fuse would work because the power windows obviously don't work when the truck is off, but apparently that fuse is still hot when the truck is off. Who knew.

I could theoretically tap into an existing wire for something that is already switched, but I really want the seats to be on their own fuse so I don't overload any existing wiring.

 

Yes, add a fuse taps. The install recommends a 20 amp circuit and IIRC the washer fuse is 7.5, idk about the 12v but I'll look. Thanks.

Two “power outlet” fuses down there that are each 15A are both ignition switched.

Just to update, @Victory was correct, the two P. Outlet fuses under the dash are switched and cut power when the truck is off. Thanks for the help!!

 

Where are they under the dash? Left or right side?

To note though, our Tacoma’s have a smart switch. After 10 minutes, everything shuts off. Like your inside lights. If you leave them on accidentally, the truck will turn them off.

 

Seems like the Tacoma has ground switching, with lots of relays. That makes for few fused acc power locations.

 

What amp fuse did you add into the fuse box for your heated seats?
