Lexus vs Buick

Can Buick really compete with Lexus? Lexus sells rebadged popular Chevys and Lexus sells rebadged popular Toyota. They seem to be on par there, Buick isn't even GM's luxury brand that would be Cadillac.

Lexus is big on dealership experience including service.

Buick sells and services their vehicles at the GMC dealership. Nothing against GMC, GM, Buick, or the dealership.

I just can't figure out what Buick wants to be.

I just see these Buick ads with vehicles that closely resemble Lexus CUVs. I was wondering what marketing angle they are using. If it's the dealership experience like over at Lexus with their free ice cream. I can't see the GMC dealer who only sells trucks can deliver the same experience.

Why didn't GMC bring back the Topick when Chevy started selling the Silverado 4500 which International also sold as the CV? GMC was GM's truck brand.

 

If you want to understand GM, imagine a group committee that was tasked with designing a racehorse, and they spent three years making a camel instead.

 

Add another 4 and buy an Oldsmobile would be an acceptable awnser.

 

I thought for the last 20 years Buick is just an excuse for GMC dealers to have cars on the lot and to pad GM’s fuel economy numbers.

For some inexplicable reason they were big in China for a while, which led to Chinese market Buicks being sold in the US.

They also were unloading Holdens in the US until GM edit: killed Holden.

Honestly, there is so much inept fuckery behind the big three auto makers even to this day, that you could write entire books about it.

 

Some of the new ice Buicks look like they were designed with the Chinese market in mind.

That's what I was thinking Buick is there for the GMC customer who might be interested in a car. After watching those commercials, I thought where do you buy a Buick? The GMC dealer, and I don't think they offer Lexus level dealer service.

 

Buick would typically be serviced at GMC dealerships. GMC has their Denali brand which technically is a halo luxury brand just beneath Cadillac.

But you would never know that because when you take your Denali or Buick in for service you’ll be doing so with fleet and work trucks and you’ll get about the same quality treatment. This is coming from someone whose family has owned Denali for decades.

I know that GM spent ungodly amounts of money to try to make their dealerships look more upscale because you may not buy a second Denali when you bring yours in for service the only air conditioning is a window unit in the service managers trailer office and the waiting room has vinyl seats held together with duct tape from the 1980s and a Leroy Hill coffee machine with a cracked pot that’s piss yellow and was last cleaned when Reagan was in office.

 

Overseas market is key, they do really well in China and other places from what I understand.

 

I didn't even know Buick still existed until I moved to Michigan.

 

Hard to imagine getting really excited about one.

 

Wasn't their slogan, "Readjust your expectations!" recently? Like who the hell comes up with this and signs off on it? Then again, it's GM, they do it to themselves.

What's a trip is how many people clearly under 30 driving them around here, and presumably not all of them inherited it from grandpa's estate. Some may have actually paid real money for them.

 

My wife comes from a Chrysler family and last time we were in Michigan I always found the UAW only parking signs to be hilarious when half of these dudes are being put out of work by factories moving out of the country and “American” cars being sold that are made in Europe and Mexico.

You must have missed the 2025 Enclave based off the Traverse. Looks very much like a Lexus TX.
