They help but you still need to shift your weight around every so often to relieve pressure points. I would get the gel bicycle shorts over the foam ones.

Basically I'd wear thermal tights -> bicycle padded shorts -> sweat pants -> motorcycle gear. The tights prevent any chafing from the seams on the padded shorts and the sweat pants add an extra layer of comfort, especially around the tank and on your knees.

It's not about being cheap. I overpaid for my CRF at $6999.....but I really wanted it
I don't want a Daryl bike bad enough to overpay for something that I wouldn't finish anyway
That's a cool looking little bike. I'd like to see a mini Daryl bike :D Wonder if you could use a R3 front end? :D

Well, motorcycle track day went better than I could have ever hoped! Even with 105F+ weather my Subaru did great, never had any real concern even with coolant temps getting up to 209F. Loading and unloading the Kendon was super easy, and the only tricky part of driving it was backing up the trailer, which I just don't have practice with.

Track day itself was amazing. I started off super slow in the first session and started working my way up. Keep in mind this was my 3rd track day ever, and 1st one in 8 years and 1st one on the RC390. Even the "sighting laps" behind the instructor in the morning seemed fast but I started learning the bike more and more. I also was with several friends who are way more experienced than me and do AFM racing, so I was able to ask a ton of questions between sessions and during lunch.

Anyways after lunch my sessions got better and better and by the last session I was able to drag knee on both sides! Thunderhill East is a left turn focused track so I was surprised I was still able to get my knee down on the right. Bike was also a ton of fun, with the only downside being I couldn't pass on straights and had to do it under braking, but it just added to the challenge. I'm super stoked to go back to the next one.

I was pretty happy to be able to get my knees down without using up the entire tire. Even on track I guess I like having something in reserve!

The Kendon trailer is very useful to hang stuff from between sessions:

Changed the shaft oil this morning. Not sure ut was ever don't before. Looked like brown paint with a bit of metallic flake. :annoyed:

    Glad Yamahas are bulletproof.

Rear drive oil? I wouldn't be too worried about it, it's only supposed to be changed every 16k miles and since it's got gears it will always look a little metallic (which is why it has the magnetic drain plug).

I need to look in to doing the steering bearings. I know @nd4spdbh has mentioned it but I kind of don't want to take my bike apart yet again right now.

Awesome, that's Ortega right? I just rode that highway and ate at that restaurant for the first time a few weeks ago.

dude awesome! those KTMs are fun. I was just at the track this weekend as well in similar temps. Got a chance to do a session on a RC390 as well, it was pretty fun.

had a pretty solid weekend myself, went back to streets of Willow, and conquered the turn that took me out in the BMW. 2 day weekend, ran it both directions. R3 performed beautifully, the only issue it had on occasion was starting, which I think was due to the heat. A lot of people were having to bump start their bikes, mine just took a little longer. No incidents for me, though there were quite a few crashes, and one guy needed the ambulance unfortunately.

really need to work on braking later/harder, and body positioning. Still have a bit of fear of coming in too hot into a turn even on the R3 lol. And it always feels like I’m hanging off then I see the pictures and it’s like “what was I even doing” but I must be doing something right since I got bumped up to B group halfway through the second day.

Awesome! R3 in B group?! You're probably much faster than me. I was passing a good amount of people, especially under braking, but I wasn't the fastest in my group. We also had a very light group with only about 6-8 people so there was no need to move since we all had a good amount of track to ourselves.

I'd love to do a day at Buttonwillow or something if we're all able to coordinate!

I thought yours already had a couple thousand miles? Did the previous owner not do it then?

Haha thanks, still feel slow when I'm on the track. It's fun passing people in the turns though, you really can carry so much more corner speed on that smaller bike confidently. Braking passes scare me a little just because most peoples brakes are better than mine lol, that's the one thing I haven't really upgraded on the R3.

Our class was fairly busy until the 2nd half of the 2nd day, most people cleared out by then. Couple times I would get stuck behind some traffic, but I just pull off and wait a bit.

Would definitely be game to coordinate one in the future! So far I have another Streets weekend planned October, and might add that Buttonwillow Aprilia day for that Monday after. But I'll probably be booking more anyways so I can definitely keep you posted haha

I'm the third owner. Guy I got it from only had it for about 1200 miles and the dealer he got it from told him they did the oil, so he didn't do anything on it.

I contacted the dealer and off the VIN they showed they did the brakes, but nothing else. I've done the oil and shaft oil now, plus I just replaced the fuel cap.

I'd like to do the coolant as well, but need to read up on it. Thought I saw it required removing the throttle body, but I was pretty tired when I read it. I could easily be mistaken.

Sold the 2008 Kawasaki ZZR600. Didn't take too long, only had to put up with FB marketplace funny business for about 2.5 weeks. The herd is down to 6 now. Don't think I can part ways with any of the remaining bikes.

I just did the coolant! You do not need to remove anything other than the left panel (and even then you can just loosen it and slide a long funnel down if you don't want to remove it all the way). I would also remove the coolant overflow tank. It's kind of a PITA to do because the two bolts are hard to access and the tank juuuust squeezes out of the left side of the bike, but it's much easier to wash out.

Otherwise, just drain from water pump, flush out with distilled water, then refill with coolant. I got the OE Yamaha stuff and two bottles of it was perfect to fill the bike up to the brim and also the reservoir to the Full mark.
