my dad likes to say the same thing to my mom occasionally. then she whips out "The List", and you can almost watch the wave of panic wash across his face.

I built two more rear bumpers for local members, got a daily driver that I need to fix some stuff on. Have plans to build a front bumper, skids, and a flatbed but the day job is getting in the way

I have the affordable bender with a 12 ton air over hydro on it. Works pretty well for me but I will probably go for a JD2 when I take this more seriously.

Good tools are definitely worth their weight

I can't tell you how many times I've gone into one of my boxes of scrap I still had "hoping" I had the right size cut off to use as a shim

More times than I care to admit

Today my order arrived for these Fireball tool shims

Member in another group asked to see other goodies I used from Fireball

Recommend all of these and more

Very true, I dont regret my choice cause it got me up and going with tube bending at 1/3 the price. It has worked great except the time I tried to bend tube when it was 10 deg in the shop and the cylinder blew an o ring out of it.

I use carpenters pencils for shims more than I care to admit...

I did actually have a question. My daily needs an exhaust and 304 is out of the question (this is a $1000 beater jetta tdi) am I better off using 409 SS or just going with aluminized? In the northeast so corrosion properties matter. Also has anyone had any luck with exhaust paint to help with corrosion?

Open to tig (no petal), mig, or fluxcore if it matters for anything.

check out the woodward fab bender when the time comes in addition to the model 32. they're functionally identical, and at retail, within dollars of one another. when i was ready to buy, i just waited until one went on sale or i got a decent coupon code. woodward ended up being first, but ive used both, and there's really no difference. both are great. you can also get woodward dies on Amazon. price is no different that anywhere else, but free shipping on a 40 lb chunk of steel is nice.

Thanks for the tips. Also your axle truss you've been working on is one of the most badass things I've seen in a while.

appreciate it! between the truss itself and all of the link brackets, i feel like the axle took as long as the entire rest of the cage will :bananadead:

Summit racing often has that bender for much less than woodward fabs site itself

Even confirmed it after I called and asked about a MIL discount (only 6%)

Friend of mine really likes his and I cut out a stand for him too

Good to see plenty more here using it

not an uncommon practice. i do the same with one of my companies. you get a better price if you go through an interior designer than directly through me. they spend a lot more time and money on marketing than i want to, and then they get to interface with the client. i'd rather just serve as support when needed vs working with the masses every day.

    Oh for sure

Just a heads-up for anyone here considering one

But yeah that tool has shown some amazing results from a lot of people here

I'd have one already but no market near me, not to mention people are cheap AF in the off-road community near me

I've heard a lot of bad things about their customer support, or the lack thereof

Ordering a bender, getting it shortly after, only to not get an update (or even an email or phone response without a runaround) about a die you ordered with it

Then told "it's being shipped" yet never does

Then 2-3 months later said die finally shows up

It's the common complaint I read about and one another friend of mine experienced himself
