Marlin started having swim bladder issues again, and I am sad to say that last night, Amanda’s landlady found him dead… :(

I swear, I have a harder time keeping fish alive than I do any kind of mammal!

I bought Marlin on April 19th, he first started having swim bladder issues in early May, he started having swim bladder issues again not even a week ago, and he passed away on June 21st; I suspect that he had health problems before we brought him home. What stinks is that if he passed within a month of purchase, I could have gotten my money back (with the dead fish, the receipt, and a water sample) and bought a new fish; I am sad that the first pet my girlfriend and I bought together only lived two months...

Marlin cost like ten bucks, and the three feeder fish I bought for like 29 cents each are thriving; I wouldn't want any of the fish to die, but I'm bit upset that the one I dropped ten bucks on only lasted two months!

    :annoyed:

I am pretty sure that my truck has an oil leak. With over 200K on the clock, it no doubt burns oil, but my truck does not show any obvious signs of burning oil even when it’s low. On average, my truck uses a quart anywhere between every 2,000 miles and 4,000 miles. It can go down below 2,000 if I accelerate rapidly, haul heavy loads, and/or pull a trail.

Since the last oil change (almost 2,500 miles), I’ve probably added just a teensy bit over a quart in that time. If my truck has an oil leak, I it would be in an area that’s out of the way. Any ideas?

There was some seepage from the cam cover gasket in May 2022 at just over 150K miles; I’m wondering if something else could be seeping…?

When you had to get the oil pan in your truck replaced, was it leaving any oil stains in your driveway?

Because some engine don't burn oil as efficiently as others.

That’s probably a good thing in my case. Should I go back to 10W-30? I haven’t used that since right after the head gasket was replaced…

You could switch to 5w-30 and see if it slows it down.
Or you could just keep adding oil. I guess it depends on which is more convenient for you.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
The quantity is important. Think of it like this. There's a fast-moving Creek in front of us. If I put a drop of red food coloring into it are you going to be able to discern that there was red food coloring in the creek after 20 ft. Doubtful, but don't doubt that it isn't in there because it's no longer in my bottle of food coloring and I'm sure if you had better equipment like a spectrometer you could pick it out of the water at least for the duration that it was in front of you. Now think of the exact same example but this time I dump a bucket of food coloring in. You're probably going to be able to visually see that 20 feet down. Whereas your friends VW is burning a lot and probably needs to be filled a few times per oil change interval your truck is burning just a little in comparison and probably isn't that noticeable unless you idle for a really long time and then blip the throttle pedal or something... But most of the time it would just look like normal exhaust because for the most part it is

Then 10w-30 wont make a difference.
    Just keep adding oil.

I would look from underneath and see if there is any leaks or coatings on the frame etc.

If I had to guess, burning oil. 200k mile 4 cylinder isn't uncommon. Wouldn't even worry about it and keep checking ever midpoint between your oil changes.

In June of last year I was told at Valvoline they saw the start of an oil leak somewhere down below. I forgot about it and figured it could just be them digging for work. Started noticing a little oil in the driveway in October or so but figured it might just be the filter, turns out it was the pan.
