The weather guessers asure us that there is just about no chance of rain here this week. Which means we'll get hammered.

I like fall too, it'd be better if it was not leading to winter..and all the damn leaves.

It's what they do, yup. Though Shiri Spear on Fox 25 here can do no wrong in my eyes.

A man after my own heart. I never liked the cold and the snow is just a nuisance. It was nice when I was a kid.

I enjoy the snow, but not that it's cold. If snow was warm, I'd be fine with it.
I hate the cold. I'll agree to disagree with anyone. One of the guys I go camping with is like "I'm putting on tracks and we're going in the sub freezing NMW winters!" lol no, YOU are...

We're eyeing a potential jumping ship to move again. My philosophy is why suck it up and deal with this cold weather shenanigans for 5-6 months of the year for the next 30 years, just so we can retire THEN and move to the warm weather/habitable/happy areas THEN? It's there now, why not use it now? :D

Austin didn't work out since we looked basically as the pandemic kicked off. Also I think, as much as I love the heat, maybe this might be a bit of an over-correction to New England

RI is definitely better than southern NH, but still no bueno for the winters.

    Hey yall-
Ive got a kinda beat up OEM trifold bed cover off of my 2012 Access Cab Im offering for free to anyone from TW. I just picked up a contractor shell with aluracks that weighs about a half moose and is not coming off.

The cover has 2 small (1/2" diameter" holes in it and is missing two pieces that lock it down at the tailgate. They are easily replaceable and the holes could be plugged with foam and or tape. I have the 4 brackets that mount to the bedrails and the two pieces that connect to the front corners of the cover.

If someone is interested I'll pull it out and take some pics. Im in the hilltowns of western MA.

We're northeast of Austin itself. Our original plan was in Austin, but by the early 20 teens prices, traffic, weirdness just became too much.

The Austin area is Motorhead city with car shows almost every weekend. Lots and lots of Tacos and pre Tacos.

We're very happy we moved although it would have been nice if we could've done it 10 years earlier.

Can't have snow if it doesn't get cold
Can't ski if there is no snow
Life in winter is no good if there is no skiing

Cold is Good, 'keeps the bugs away" (and other annoying pests)

It's rare I've had issues selling on CL / FB. Between the two platforms I've probably sold 100+ things. I sold my Vette and BBS LMs last month without any drama (at least from the actual buyers).

What I currently dislike is the rating system on FB Marketplace. While I understand it's usefulness, what I do dislike is that you don't need to complete a sale, or meet for a rating to go live. Once you have X number of interactions with someone they can rate you (and you can rate them). The buyer ratings are not yet public, but the seller ratings are. The guy who didn't understand how to properly communicate and missed out on the Vette gave me a 1-star review. Luckily he was dumb enough to write text along with the review so I could refute it. The guy that gave me a 4/5 star review when I told him my model wasn't nice enough to justify the shipping cost to him thinking I was helping him out can run into something sharp. I just feel like there has to be something more to happen for the rating to apply. Otherwise I could message anyone, keep sending them $10 offers on a $1,000 item and just give them 1-star reviews for not bending to my will.

I've only had three actual negative interactions selling online, which I think is fairly decent. One dude peed on my house(!!), one guy set plans to meet up at 10:00 AM at Lowe's and he never showed. I waited 15 minutes and told him I was gone and he hate messaged me a few times that week until I blocked him (over $20 floor mats!) and the last was a set of bike racks. I was asking like $30, had detailed photos, mentioned the flaws, etc. The guy talked me down to $15 via email and when I met up to give them to him gave me this snobby barista side eye sigh thing like they were literal piles of crap when he saw them. He hadn't given me the money yet, I took them out of his hands, got into my truck and drove away. I threw em out.

    Cold is painful.
    Life in winter is barren.
    Can't ride in the winter.
Not fat bike, thus no mountain bikes, then, there is mud season,, which sucks too.
I'm not against some snow wheeling.... but, that's about it.
I could tolerate the winters in Hampton Roads. Weren't long, or too cold, no real snowfall, thus no mud season.
I prefer the weather in deep south coastal Texas give me tropical.

Yeah, we liked Austin when we were there, but it was a bit $$$, so we kind of second guessed it. Then the pandemic hit and there were pictures of lines 50 deep to see an apartment for rent, etc. Plus the general nonsense, and life plans moving things out. Then I went to SD for work. I liked it when I went in May, but then I went this March solo, so I got to explore a bit, and use the trains instead of renting a car, AND got to the beach, and sat outside sipping a Cadillac Marg in sunny 70° weather, while it was raining and 40 at home. THAT time hit different than when I went in May and the weather was the same

    upload_2024-6-25_9-15-10.jpg

So, now we're on the SD train of thought.

Currently contemplating a bit between SD and LA - Oceanside, Carlsbad, etc area. Could easily get to LA (and LAX), SD, and wouldn't have to go THROUGH LA to get to SD/TJ compared to something like Santa Barbara. But then outside of SD/LA proper, so a lot cheaper (relative terms on cheaper, here....)

When we explored Austin, we spent most of our time in Austin/South Austin, and went and explored between Austin and San Antonio, not so much northeast. I'm sure if we decided to pull the trigger, we'd spend more time exploring and figuring things out.

One issue is when we looked at where IN Austin, near Zilker, houses were 1m+ for a SFH from the 60s, let alone the developers that come in, buy them, and build those stupid glass and white shoeboxes and sell them for 3m+

Nowadays I'm sure all those numbers are 50% more.

    I did a quick zillow and found a 1 bed, 1 ba, 645sqft SFH for 730k.
    So, yeah....

I do like that there are no bugs.
And if I have the cold, I'd at least like the snow to show for it. Down in RI you get the cold, but not enough to freeze over lakes solid enough to ice skate on, and then the snow doesn't stick around, so you have the cold but nothing to do with the "cold weather activities".

Our ski slope is hilarious. We had a snow storm this year and, genuinely, our ONE ski slope, during the snow storm.....closed due to inclement weather.

    upload_2024-6-25_9-23-16.jpg

You have to have I think 6 back and forth messages before they can rate you.
I think this is something new, so all these bums, just ignore them. Until you have a back and forth for a while, they can't rate you. Or something like that. I think it's a newer feature, I haven't used it at all.

I've gotten it as early as just two replies, the initial "is this available" reply and then a second reply. I try and front-load all of my messages these days to head that off. It may not be fully consistent as others I've had nothing until the six you've mentioned.

I had someone two weeks ago ask for a shipping quote and said they'd PayPal me the amount. Radio silence after that. Now, I could ding them with a 1-star review, but is it worth getting a retaliatory 1-star seller review? Unlikely. I hate that I've had probably 30-40 solid easy sales that haven't gotten a rating, yet some DB gives me a 4/5 because I said "this isn't nice enough for you to waste $40 shipping for". At the end of the day I know ratings truly don't matter, but it's still annoying nonetheless.

I do feel like in general the better written the ad, the more serious the buyer you can attract. My C5 ad was extremely detailed and my buyer was willing to wire me the full amount the day before he saw it as he felt the ad was good enough. I've seen ads where it's like "Civic for sale, don't ask me a bunch of questions" and in the first photo it's a EK CTR clone, the second photo it's on fire, the third photo it has four different color panels and the last photo it's stock with crappy aftermarket wheels. I usually assume the actual condition is the "currently on fire" but those people aren't worth anyone's time. Or "no rust" when I can see rust in the photos.
