Hey, all! I’m planning to get back into the Tacoma Owners Guild with a 2020-2023 TRDOR, but am trying to determine whether getting one with the OEM front camera (MTM) is worth it, or if I should get one without (maybe for a bit less $) and add an aftermarket front camera later. I really like the idea of the front camera for not hitting things when parking or pulling out, given the big ol’ vis-blocking front end.

Oem will work first time every time. But that is for specialized parts. Camera is one of them. If you want to play go for a lesser expensive front camera or see if you can pick one up from a junk yard

I have no experience with aftermarket ones, how they are installed, or how integrated they can be with a stock Tacoma. With that said I have the one from the factory and wouldn't change my decision. I have a DCLB and parking in tighter spaces can be a challenge due to the turning radius. When you push the camera button it will seamlessly use the backup camera when in reverse and switch to the front camera when in drive. the 360 overhead AI view is also really useful.

Summary - totally worth it IMO.

You have the front camera? I thought in 21 that was only on the Pro?

It has been a while so I don't know the exact packages but I got the full TRD Offroad Package with moonroof, JBL, etc. I believe the front camera was part of it.

Only item I regret is the JBL but there was no way to get the other stuff without getting JBL. Nearly impossible to do any audio upgrades on that thing due to it being 2 ohms unless you want to pull the whole thing out. JBL is decent sounding but certainly not premium by any means. From my test driving days memory it sounded slightly better than the standard audio package.

Take a look at the Anytime Backup Camera. Reasonably priced and easy install. Lots of threads on here about it.

Weird, I found a PDF of my window sticker. It makes zero mention of backup camera, front camera, parking assist.

I think, but not 100% certain, that is is considered part of the Multi-Terrain monitoring system, but why not just flat out say "front and rear cameras"?

Edit: My paperwork description is exactly the same. Agreed it is probably the MTM.

Pretty sure you had to get the tech package with the Premium.

Duh, just re-read the OP post. He actually writes (MTM) as an abbreviation. My brain registered it as a color -Magnetic Black Metallic (MBM) or Magnetic Grey Metallic (MGM). I thought it was odd he was tying the front camera to a Tacoma color!

Thanks, I found a lot of info on it, but nothing really comparing it to the OEM option. I’m just curious if going OEM provides a more reliable camera function, a better/worse image, etc.

I wasn’t aware the JBL system was oddly-ohm’d. That’s good to know, thanks!

Image quality would be my only minor complaint PLUS glare. It is good, but far from HD. But if you have any glare on the screen the image quality doesn't matter. I have found the glare to be more problematic depending on angle of the sun.
