I like that shelving. For me a cabinet on one side and sleeping platform on the other may be the best configuration. Then I'd have some head up/feet down room, drawer storage and visible storage. Lot's of great set ups without going full Sprinter van!

I saw some other builds that are similar to what that with cabinets and drawers on 1 side and they made them go to the ceiling, but since my leer 122 has such big windows i didn't want to block them.

it's sized to fit a twin mattress between them at 39".

should get the passenger side mostly finished this weekend and then i think i'm going to borrow this guys idea and put a shelf above the window

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZ8XuQ0eRRo

also my RGB LED kit came in this morning so i have to start deciding where to place those.

Edit: and it looks like i underestimated the amount of laminate i need.... had to spend another $70 bringing the total to $280 in laminate..... this was a horrible idea but it'll look nice.

Anyone have a recommendation for a cooler that fits under the platform setup? The Coleman Party Stackers are discontinued.

I was also interested in some sort of platform to gain more usable space. I ended up mounting a sealable container where I can sleep with my feet underneath. Works well and I still have a full usable bed.

The Bam Bed and optional sliders are what I use too, very nicely made, but a bit pricey (Not a knock on Bam, price of birch ply is crazy these days, plus labor). One can certainly make up a platform much cheaper, but I haven't had the time or tools in which to do so. Regardless, these are very nice and make things flexible for sleeping and stowing gear.

We finished up our truck bed camper build on our Lunar Rock 2023 DCLB OR just in time for plenty of PNW winter adventures. Shoutout to @trabo for the inspiration, started with your build as a template and modified in a few spots. We added two cubbyholes for our powerbank and other supplies we may not use frequently on trips but need to have. Went the one drawer route to leave the right side open to slide in skis/snowboards/chairs/etc in there. Only thing we may need to change is we built boxes for the cubbyholes to keep stuff contained, but didn't account for the wheel well so they're positioned a little cockeyed. It works for now. Pumped to give it a shot!

Killer thread here. Any chance someone can share how they waterproofed their setup? I am having trouble keeping the water out of my 6' bed. Thanks!

I love when this thread gets updated. Here’s my contribution I finished a couple months ago. I’ve spent 12 or 13 nights in it so far. Love it.

It’s a mix of 3/4 and 5/8 birch. Access doors on top so I can get stuff out without opening the tailgate. Flap doors over the wheel well cubbies too. And I keep the fridge near the cab for a nightstand. I can access it from the windoor, no slide needed.

There’s another panel I can insert for a double bed when the lady friend joins me. Fridge goes in the backseat for that.

Looks like some quality work. Like the versatility of the second bed area and a really nice layout.

Finished this last summer. So far this winter leaving that second side open has been great for skis, chairs, etc! Wish I would have made the drawer out of 1/2 inch ply instead of 3/4 but it’s just a little heavier than it needs to be. Fun project!!!

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
I guess I didn't post mine up. I went a bit different route, steel.

    20230805_200728.jpg 20230805_204627.jpg 20230529_163314.jpg 20230414_184519.jpg 20230414_184547.jpg

The platform has since been covered with carpet. The battery/solar controller/inverter fit under the platform, with plenty of additional storage. Traction boards have since found other mounting. Hooking/unhooking the tent from the truck takes just a couple of minutes and gives me room and flexibility in case of rain.

What size bike is that or do you have a mid rise shell? I have a cab height shell and have about 1" to spare getting my large mountain bike in the back with no front wheel

It’s a medium Pivot Switchblade. 29. The camper shell is a Leer 180. Got the mid-rise for no other reason than fitting the bike in.

Have you isolated where the water is getting in? I had a couple issues when i first got my cap installed. Took a few hose tests to isolate and then i could start addressing the problem spots.

Yea there was a couple spots that I found - the corner of the bed where the rails meet, put more butyl tape and I think that has stopped it, just waiting for the next rain in a day or two to confirm. Is there anywhere water was getting in from under the bed rail plastics? I used aluminum tape under the plastics but it seems to still have a small leak either from under the plastics or where the tie down bed rail bar is mounted to the bed side wall.

I put the same aluminum tape on the rails under the plastic caps but I also ran a line of silicone along it. The front top corners were the biggest culprit but sounds like you addressed those. The cubby holes near the tailgate are another possibility. Also, the taillight on the camper shell. It flowed in a lot from there on my Leer 180 until I pulled it out and put silicone around it.

Anybody install a maxair fan into their topper? Trying to decide if it's worth it or not as camping in the Texas summers is brutal..
