Pretty sure I got scammed... (Don't think this is powder coat)

Well, I knew I was rolling the dice on this. I dreaded it showing up, being goobered, and having to post on here about the skid plate I ordered on fucking Etsy lol.

Long story short I wanted to get a TRD skid plate, but have everything on the truck black. I found one place that had black skid plates....Etsy. I messaged back and forth with Mr. Hamsa Alsafadi Chaar and he confirmed for me that it was, in fact, powder coated.

I'm likely going to be sending it back and just getting an OEM one. I did want to double check on here that this was sprayed before I start my return claim. On top of the images I post, there was also some "paint twist" when I was putting the bolts in so I'm 95% sure at this point, just don't have a lot of experience with powder coat - but I do know it's cooked on and hardened, so it doesn't add up. Seems to just be a weak powder coating job. Seller insists it was powder coated and multiple responses here confirm that it likely is, just not done well.

On top of the false advertising, it was wrapped in a single thin/small bubble layer of bubble wrap, so it obviously showed up dinged and dented, which I could live with, it's a skid plate after all. The TRD inlays are garbage, plastic from the mold left on and clips bent to hell, but I touched them up and made them work fine. The front to back curvature also seems to be slightly off as I needed to push up a deal to get the rear mounting points to mate against the rail. My point with all of this is to just mention the overall pretty bad quality in case anyone searches the forums about this Etsy Black TRD Skid Plate and finds this post.

isnt the TRD skid plate aluminum? why powder coat, a heavy duty rattle can did my ebay TRD skid plate just fine....

Interesting, this likely would have been the better play. I've never thought about rattle canning anything when it needs to be durable. Will have to dig around and see what's out there.

You paid a premium price for a product and it arrived damaged.... Send it back. Then order a stock TRD skid or knockoff and paint it yourself

 

I have a Pro and it the skids not black and I think it looks good. Otherwise, get a RCI skid, those are killer. I had one on my last tacoma and my wife's 4R has one on it now.

 

I hate to say this, but I’m pretty sure I paid less than that for my OEM Pro skid plate.

 

Not sure you got scammed, but the quality of ‘powder coat’ and application can vary.

Regardless, if it arrived damaged I would have returned prior to install for that alone.

Get an OEM and drop it off at your local powder coat shop or raptor line it.

 

Vendor can say you bent it during mounting. Looks powder coated.

Just reinstall it and forget about it. Nobody going to ever see it.

RCI skids do not provide good coverage. They skimp out to reduce materials which leaves the LCA cam bolts exposed so that you have to buy ANOTHER product from them (unnecessary LCA skids). The TRD Pro skid flares out and has coverage for the LCA cam bolts.

Considering doing this instead, will see how the refund process goes.

This is my other option, hitting the damaged areas with a little touch up paint and moving on.

 

The seller? Plan to do the same when this all wraps up, and leave a poor review on the quality so no one else gets got. I checked the reviews, shocked it showed up like this.
