Does it have a cut out to do oil changes or do you have to drop it when doing oil changes?

I have the Toyota powder coated side steps. Your skid finish look similar to my side steps.

Your item does look to be powder coated, but it does look like it was done by an amateur

Depending on the powder used, the base metal must be heated to a specific temperature below the curing temp when powder is applied, and once cured should look better than...well what you have

I don't powder coat, nor do I know of anyone that does personally but I've read up on it just to learn

I do metal working and customers often ask for powder coating; I barely even paint shit cause I'm bad at it :bananadead:

My advice? Don't bother with Etsy

You have a bunch of DIY'ers flooding the market there, and as much as I am for supporting small business, too many amateurs there trying to make a quick buck while delivering products that are subpar

I must've missed it, is that steel or aluminum?

I’m sorry but Etsy? I’d have to ask my wife how to order from there.

Powder coating isn't always ''cooked'' on. There are several ways to powdercoat and an oven isn't always used to cure it. Personally, a GOOD paint applied normally on a correctly prepared surface beats a lot of powdercoatings. Nothing sticks well to a poorly prepared surface no matter the cost. It may look good but long term adhesion suffers.

I’ll agree that good prep is key for both paint and powder coat. And good paint is always better than crappy powder coating.....but IME, good powder coating is a lot tougher than good paint (especially on skids/suspension/frames/wheels). It may not always look as nice as good paint, but it’s definitely more impact and scratch resistant.

I used an oil based tractor paint when I painted the skid plate I built for my Durango. Dry time was in days to just about a week but once cured, that stuff was about as hard to get off as galvanizing. However, if I wanted to really do it right, I'd find a local zinc or galvanizing plating company and do it once and never think about it again. Just do everything you want to do to it before it's plated.

I have found powder coating peels off in huge chunks once one area is compromised and water can get under it.

Sorry for a pic that doesn’t show it clearly but I just blacked out my Pro TRD skid using what’s pictured.

To me, definitely looks like powder coat, but also looks like little/no prep work to make it adhere and possibly thin application as well.

I hate to ruin it, but painting the TRD skid worked like a champ for me. Mine was second hand, but it has been great even with some abuse.

Of course, I painted the ARB Recovery Point also. I have issues.
