The same question I'm asking myself... of you and the others that got stuck in the "gotta defend my Taco" mindset.

If you read any of my posts, the last thing I do is defend the Tacoma lol. I'm very realistic about its downfalls, but comparing a budget mini-SUV to it and then continue to brag makes zero sense.

Guy I've gone back and read your posts on this thread. You said you just got a new Trailblazer and bragged that you got 41 mpg over 100 miles, then asked what someone else was paying for gas.

There is nothing to interpret and certainly nothing to go over anyone's head. This isn't even about Tacomas or Toyota vs Chevy, this is just you being an idiot troll. Take this nonsense somewhere else.

Okay... then replace the model I mentioned with the word, "generic" and see if you can get past the branding issue. It's not about the brand of competitor... it's that Toyota isn't competing with the fifty alternatives out there that fill the need for less money. There's Fords and Hyundias and Hondas out there that will do what the average Taco is asked to do and more economically. Getting all defensive on a thread titled. "4th gens not selling" when somebody offers an explanation is pretty funny.

Oh... and it seems like a lot of people missed the part where I said I was keeping my 3rd gen. I just won't be driving it as much. About the only place it will be going is into the outback when we get the urge. An increasingly unusual use for a Taco with all the pristine little driveway queens being bought so people can look like they are "outdoorsy".

The topic of this thread is supposed to be about Tacomas not selling. They are clearly selling now, and we’ll have June numbers in about a week.

I don't think he was defending the taco as much just bashing that you are comparing the baby suv/first car for a teenage girl to any mid size truck on the market lol.

FIFY. I have a buddy that is on his third Jeep since I bought my Taco (late 2013) and he has had all kinds of issues with them. Transmission issues on one, A/C went out on two of them, his current one sounds like it needs a new wheel bearing with under 30K miles on it, seems like he's getting alignments every three days, electronics issues on all of them. Granted, he is pretty abusive to his vehicles, but I can't help but think ANYTHING else would stand up better than the Jeeps he's had. Yet he keeps buying them. I remind him all the time that I bought my Taco the same time he bought his first Jeep; he loves hearing it. Now, I need to go knock on some wood.

If literally ever single person is reading what you wrote the same way, just maybe, what you wrote isn't clear. Try some self reflection.

Maybe answer some of the follow up questions people asked or try to restate your point.

My Corolla Hybrid got 51 mpg over a 1600 mile trip at 70-85mph.

What are you paying for gas…:smack:

Bragging about the best fuel economy in this thread is like bragging about having the smallest wiener.

    2024 TRD OR long bed
If you look at the Kissmygrits GitHub effort it is easy to see the Tacomas are selling. It does show a whole lot more long beds on west coast. When I see someone too skewed towards negative like the YouTube guy in first post or someone too cheery I search for data.

That GitBhub effort shows 218 TRD Offroad long beds on lots this morning but only 3 in an upper midwest 250 mi circle that includes a whole lot of dealers.

Total of 7 long bed TRD OR within 500 miles of me per Toyota website just now (I'm in the center of the country), not including sale pending. And some of those 7 are already on deposit or sold but haven't been removed from the website. There's demand. Toyota just isn't getting them out to dealers.

I've discovered some dealers don't list their pending sales as should be. One salesperson told me they do it purposely for exactly the call I made to find out.

Looking at Toyota site putting in different zip codes great distances apart, it still looks like Toyota is not putting long bed TRD OR inventory where there is demand. When they land unclaimed in my region they disappear in 1 - 5 days but west coast states seem to have them on lots noticeably longer.

This is why the dealership model blows. So many shitty non-transparent tactics. Until Toyota offers direct to consumer sales, I think I'll stick with Tesla/Rivian for now.

I get wanting the OR trim, but the sr5 is probably 90% as capable as the OR for grocery fetching and trips to the mall. Do you really need the OR? I’d rather have the long bed, which is much more likely to be of use.

It's a totally overengineered truck for literally 99% of the time I'd drive it. A decent trailer and a Honda Pilot would probably be a better purchase. But it's just one of the things I've wanted for a long time.

I'm not getting a pickup to buy groceries or go to a mall. It's with plenty of reluctance to be considering a pickup again. It will be better for redeveloping a property, trail building and ski area crew, plus elements of my main job.

From much experience I know that other 10% in what you mention needs the locking rear differential. Also my wife did not like the SR5 seats compared to the OR and the Land Cruiser's.

The short beds are a little hard for me to comprehend except for they fit in garages. Any Tacoma will be a compromise in comfort but the long bed OR will be good for work I'll be doing in the next few years.
