No, not in 1976. If you look at the list of VIN numbers on that owner's forum your number falls squarely in the 1976 model year. I'd bet that a previous owner snagged a set of those Comstar wheels years ago and swapped them for the standard spoke wheels.

Cheap parts will get you exactly what you paid for. I see you're in VA but I'm not sure exactly where. There is a decent vintage Japanese motorcycle swap meet coming up in August at the Latimore Fairgrounds near Gettysburg, PA that's usually a pretty decent event. The last weekend in July is the AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days event in Lexington, OH that I understand is huge, with over 800 vendors, that I'm attending for my first time ever. Here is a good source for NOS and reproduction parts that are OEM quality.

Brakes and wheels look correct for a goldwing after a brief glance at google images, but the fender stay is different.

SM has lowered suspension vs the offroad street legal KLX. Also I wouldnt bother with the 300R then convert to street, just get the street version and then strip it of useless epa BS.

You might be surprised to find the engine might not need too much. My 400 had been sitting for almost 8 years but the kick starter would spin it over. I pulled the plugs and fogged the cylinder walls with some light oil as it only showed a bit over 20k miles. Changed oil and filter, fresh plugs, took a glance at the points. Pulled the carbs and they got the most attention. Full set of rebuild kits with new jets, ultrasconic tanked the bodies and parts then a careful rebuild. Made sure the airbox was clean, fresh battery and it fired up. Slight, and I mean slight oil leak at the head gasket in the corner of what would be the low spot when parked on side stand. Spoke to a very reputable Honda tech I know and he told me that it would likely seal itself back up after a few dozen heat cycles. It did. Went on to rebuild the front caliper and forks, fresh tires and tubes, and a LOT of cleaning then finally a paint job. Took me 12-18 months to get it running under its own power and another 12-18 to get it to what it looks like now.

The kick starter is not spinning the engine on mine. I bought a bottle of Marvel mystery oil , but no tools came with the bike , so I'll need a spark plug's socket to get the plugs out.. I was able to get 2 (left and right) plugs out with regular's socket , but can't get to the 2 middle once. The good news is that the bike came with bunch of parts, new petcock, carb kits, spark plugs and more. I ma hopping to free the engine in next few days and go from there.

hmm got a point there. also according to my buddy they dont make drilled rotors for these old dual disc setups so he is wondering if someone just drilled them on their own?

The 76 had spokes, with only one disc on the front. Looks like some swapped with 77 wheels to get the double disc up front. Also someone drilled holes in the discs.

ya the sm looks cool on color but doesnt have what i want. so for the 300d/s version for some reason it weighs a good bit more then just the r model. for what ill be doing the r model will be perfect for me and then one day i can make it street legal since in mo its extremely easy to do. plus the r model is cheaper on the 20-23 models at new being 5800 bucks vs the d/s is 6100 and the sm is close to 6700 iirc?

thats possible but according to him he would junk those rotors pretty fast. they are known to crack really easily once drilled like that

    forgot to add this!

the street version weighs more because of its tail, lights, and exhaust which all can be changed but the big plus with a true dirtbike is if i dont want to insure it and plate it i dont have to here... so if i change my mind one day i can throw the enduro kit on it and boom dual sport thats still lighter then the factory one. plus any trails i want to do are not close so id have to trailer it or load it up in the bed anyways so i think ill go the 300r route

Possibly aftermarket rotors. Done properly you can drill your own rotors but I hope you're a journeyman level machinist. Must maintain balance so you don't introduce vibration or wobble. My form bil was a machinist and did his own but he started with 2 brand new OEM rotors and clamped them together to maintain perfect symmetry left to right as well. Not an easy job and not something most people could do at home.

I just had to say, finding the perfect windscreen is a great thing. Those charts seem like guesswork. This one probably hits around the chin and the airflow is just right. : )
