Did a little search on your issue(s) and one post said the ribbon cable may be the problem. Yes, hopefully they will replace it with a new unit if you can't get this figured out.

Can you link me to that post? I'd like to see it. Thanks. Ill try disconnecting and reconnecting that cable tomorrow. The unit did not do this issue for the first 3 days. Maybe something came loose. I dont expect a reply from them until monday anyway.

    To come!!

How do you like the big screen?? I’ve been looking at that one! I have the Phoenix automotive now and it’s just too cheap and troublesome… where did you buy yours from?

[First post!] After reading through this thread and looking at all of the head unit options, I've decided to go with the Joying for my 2012 TRD Sport. Hoping you folks can help me here as I'm split on which unit to buy, and where to buy it from.

I definitely want a volume knob, so I'm down to either the 8 inch (Android 12) or the "Newest After-Market 9 inch" as it's described on joyingauto.com. It looks like the 9" has replaced the 8" on Joying's site so if I order through them that looks like my only option, listed at $403.75 which must be USD as there's no option to change currency and when I select my Canadian address at cart it doesn't price. https://www.joyingauto.com/joying-9...or-toyota-tacoma-2005-2015-apple-carplay.html

On ebay, I can order either the 8" (it says last available, $348.50 USD or $478.54 CAD) or the 9" ($403.75 USD or $554.41 CAD). If I order from the Joying store on ebay, would I still have warranty? Is the service, shipping, etc. the same by ordering on ebay as it would their website?

I see some folks have found issues with running Android 12 but I see both are running 12 now. Is there anything else I should consider? Benefits or drawbacks of having the two knobs on the 8" or is having the bigger screen better overall?

Thanks and glad to join the forum!

    Welcome to TW.

I've had my unit for 3 years and I want to say it was the only one available for Tacoma trucks at that time.
The one I have Joying 8" Android 10 with knobs and to honest I never use the volume knob on the unit. I find it hard to adjust the volume with my Vienna Sausage fingers while driving and keeping my eyes on the road. The steering wheel controls work great. As for the knob on ther right side, I'm not to sure what that does, except for turning the screen off.

Looking at the one you're interested in the knobs look a litte bigger and in a different location. So the knobs may be easier to adjust.

For me the 8" screen size is perfect for the cab and blends in so it's not the first thing you notice. It looks like it belongs, it looks stock.

I'm not sure of what ebay seller you're looking at, but the seller I bought my unit from came with a 2 year warranty.

The difference in shipping is time. The ebay seller has the unit here in the US. If purchased directly from Joying, it ships from China

Is this the unit you're looking at? If so, its' the same seller I purchased mine from 3 years ago.

Thank you. Yes, I should have clarified with links to items on ebay. The 8" is the same seller I looked at, wasn't sure about the 9" and now I'm realizing maybe it was a different dealer?:

    Joying 8": https://www.ebay.ca/itm/143802283141
    Joying 9": https://www.ebay.ca/itm/386035912415

Looks like they both ship from China

I've found the volume knob on my unit to be so sensitive that it is unusable.

Looks that way. I don't recall how long it took mine to ship. For some reason I always thought mine was already imported and shipped from the US. Now I know.

Kind of weird about the slight difference in the sellers name. Very close, but different.

If you're in Canada, doesn't Customs hold mail/packages that come in from out of Canada?

And @TodayWasTHeDaY that knob is super sensitive. Thank goodness for the steering wheel controls.

If you order directly from joyings site, there is an option to have it shipped from the usa. Mine came from CA

Is anyone else having issues with CarPlay suddenly not working after updating an iPhone to iOS 17.5.1?

    -----
EDIT, 15 mins after posting: Nevermind. Somehow the JOYING unit had gotten confused and needed to be completely rebooted, which requires a hard power-off/battery disconnection. After cold-booting the JOYING unit and re-selecting CarPlay on my iPhone, it connected up normally.
    -------

I figure it HAS to be a change on the iPhone/iOS side, because the JOYING unit is still on the same firmware/same settings as when I got it. Until recently, CarPlay was working absolutely fine.

I've already tried unpairing & repairing bluetooth & carplay. Bluetooth pairing continues to work normally (make & receive phone calls through the JOYING unit, with my iPHone as the source of the call) -- but CarPlay (including Music, iMessages, and Google Maps) just won't connect anymore.

I bought my Joying unit on Ebay in mid-2022:

I removed those annoying stickers on the sun visor.
I prefer having the screen off entirely when drive at night. One of the things that drives me crazy about the factory head unit is that you have to dig through the menu in order to do so.

Before I pull the trigger, does anyone know if there's any sort of screensaver on the Joying units, to automatically turn the screen completely off when the headlights are activated?

Also, is it possible to completely turn off the illumination on the buttons?

I have been thinking about updating my head unit for a while.
Now, I have the Alpine ilx507 sitting in my shopping cart that is a little over 1k and I was about to pull the trigger.
Going through this thread gave me some doubts. The joying unit is a no brainer as far as look and price. I have some concerns about the reliability.
    I have a 2012 non jbl
If I decided to go with a joying unit, I would go with the 9 inch.
Rear view camera is in the mirror. I would keep it and add the joying front and back. Would they interfere with each other?
For the obd option. do I need to purchase another device to activate it? What vehicle info I would be able to access on the screen?
For the ones that have the joying units for a while what are the pros and cons?
    Thanks

Joying 9 inch head unit with single volume knob. Seat jackers. Small antenna. Removed rear seats. Hood lift pistons.
Hi Nalex, just put one in my own 2012 prerunner access cab. So far so good. I'm absolutely going to be exploring it. I didn't see any maps in google maps, thought they were loaded(?) I'm reading up on uploading apps to it and not signing into my google account or syncing due to security concerns. I'm going to get usb ports for the empty slots below the AC and sort that out. Not to sure about the gps antenna, some folks just shove them in the dash. When I get it all sorted I will see about getting it mounted a little more securely. Mine is also 9 inch, with a single volume knob and I have not looked into extra/upgraded cameras either, but will at some point. Mine is also4/64 so I should have plenty of capability. I'll be following. Good luck!

on the 9" one, all you have to do is drag down the top menu bar, and click on Black screen to turn the screen off. Then touch it anywhere again to turn it back on. Yes, the button lights can be Always on, on with headlights, or always off.
