I always over think this stuff too. In the end the only reasonable thing is to do what you want. You only live once and time goes quick

Depends on how much more you like the 4th gen over the 3rd gen. I'm not sure if you're getting a fair price for your current 3rd gen, but $4k off MSRP (and potentially more) for a 4th gen seems like a great deal.

At the end of the day, as long as you can still support yourself with some wiggle room when shit hits the fan, send it. Life is too short to be in a vehicle you dislike.

Do know that you may run into some first year issues though.

Stiff riding, small interior, slow AF, Tacoma is worlds better for most people, it’s kinda like what they say about meeting your super hero. I’ve been driving one for the past few years, not what I would spend my money on.

Sounds like a good deal for the OP, but flipping trucks after one year is not a great idea, especially for one without a proven track record. I'd wait for the mid-cycle refresh.

Toyota seems to lean hard lately on first-year customers to complete their development for them. As a previous ‘16 owner, trust me on that one…and I’m even less enthusiastic on field testing the very first turbo four cylinder truck Toyota offers in the USA since 1985. Keep making payments on your current, and hang out a while until others confirm when the coast is clear. I’m sure more than a few ‘22 Tundra owners would endorse that plan…

And don’t worry about missing out on this particular deal b/c even better deals are coming EOY. Fingers crossed you might even get a little better rate by then too.

Sounds good to me. You’ll like it, and they’re making you a deal.

Good luck, share pics, and keep us mid-cyclers in the loop.

tbh he could probably do pretty well with lemon laws if he brushes up on it. Might be better to lease though, iirc there's a way to get comped for your payments due to new gen trucks errors, but i dont know if that's just the lease or for bought cars too

All I can say is nothing could be worse then owning multiple third gen’s. I’ve just come to the conclusion they suck . So ready for a change with the 4th gen . 10min test drive and what a world of difference

This is my honest bigger take on the way you are looking at this.
I know it's good to not be in debt with things but I never really understood why a lot of people on this forum are obsessed with having their trucks paid off. I did when I was a bit younger but once I learned how to invest money even in a beginner way I realized it's much more lucrative to pay later on things that are small to keep the cash flow as big as possible. I had this argument many times back when I bought my 2011. Now 10 years later this last year I 14x my income by following this way of thinking. Nothing more than trade school education, listening to older guys advice, and working hard.
So in the end of it were me I would have already been driving the 2024 and not thinking twice. The money they offered you on your current I would have taken but I would have even tried to have them buy it and finance the truck while taking the cash....but that like I explained above is how I do things

It seems to me that has to be a personal decision but I will offer this as someone still shopping, lurking but only interested in locking rear axle models.

If the locking rear axle and long bed are not a high priority a trade to next generation will bet you better fuel economy ratings and a top safety pick. In region it is hard to find long body TRD Offroad.

    Good luck!

I traded in my 3rd gen TRD Offroad w/17K miles (2022) and they gave me 38K. BTW- It was to buy my wife a Venza - I no longer have a Tacoma (first time in like 20 years). I'm driving her old RAV4 Hyrbid (2022) and never been happier.
