I'm an old guy making the transition to 4x4 off road & camping (that's what we used to call it) from my decades of big bike Adventure riding off road, BMW's and KTM's. I was the Admin and a Mod on the Adventure Rider forum for a bunch of years, great fun.

I pull a 17' self contained Casita Travel trailer with Radwife and we will be exploring off road after we are set up in camp. This will include many of the same areas I have done many times on motorcycles, Death Valley, Mojave etc. I will also be doing some solo with a tent.

I like running stealth, keeping my gear under wraps so to that end everything for our trips is set up under the locking bed cover. The center section will soon have pad eyes for securing the bins I use to carry our camp gear.

Like I stated, not to exciting compared to the amazing rigs that get posted here, but it should work for our trips...Rock crawling is not part of our future, we travel solo.

So far, gas, shovel, tire patch kit (compressor not in the bed at the moment), traction boards, rope, tool roll, fire extinguisher and a folding step so this old man can get up in the bed. There are a few other things I'll be adding.

Maybe add first aid kit, road safety kit and bungee cords.

Already in the interior truck storage areas along with our most important safety item, a Garmin 67i for emergency satellite communications.

The Casita is fully self contained and we have a large portable solar panel plus a Honda generator.

    This is the way........

We take our little square drop out into some crazy places. The joy of not being restricted by some massive dual/triple axle trailer that you can only take to open fields or cement/asphalt campgrounds is real.
The wife and I transitioned to the squaredrop from tent camping, so the Dometic fridge and no need for ice has alone changed our camping game.

After 5 years and 50,000+ miles with our OGT square drop we have a self sufficient routine down pat.
It sounds like you are similarly squared away....

    Good luck in your adventures!

Great looking set up, DCLB 3rd gen, I love it.

The Casita trailer has been produced for over 40 years with just minor upgrades every few years. They can only be purchased directly from the manufacturer in Rice Texas. You pick it up or they deliver. Casita has a huge cult type following and with the fiberglass construction they last for many decades.

My wife, of over 50 years, is disabled, MS, and uses a walker or power chair so a self contained unit with a bathroom is a necessity and the 4x4 off road truck allows her to explore, me driving, since she can't hike.

We don't use developed campgrounds to often. When we do it is when we are traveling visiting distant friends or relatives like in the pic below in Redding.

Very nice. We looked at these. We have a small camper that works for now and have entertained thoughts of something like the Casita.
Then we teeter-totter on just buying a tricked out Mercedes Van, or tricking it out ourself.

Once someone leaves us an inheritance we may go either way.

We have many trips under out belt including a 16-day trip to YellowStone with this thing. Grand Canyon is on the list this year, we
get up there about every other year it's always a good place to go.

    True dat.... less is more.!
And I concur about the Dometic - I'm in love with not having to deal with ice.

Very cool. The wife and I are nearly strictly dispersed campers.......solar power, canned goods, electric fridge, Honda 2000i, all in areas like National Forests that have services, and are way away from the general populous and usually difficult to get to.

We have found that we are most definitely not state park or even usually Fed park campers......just too many damn people.

I concur with the conclusion about too many damn people. Most are idiots to boot. But there are some state and fed campgrounds that
don't attract crowds. We've stayed in several and what a joy it is to have showers, flush toilets, electricity and water in a campground with
100 cherry spots to choose from and only 10 people in the entire place. These places attract more wildlife to boot.

They are out there if you look.

If we were younger ( we are 65+ ) we'd do more dispersed camping, I get it, but we are at that age where a minor annoyance to someone
in their 20's-30's could be lethal for us. I'm just happy we both enjoy getting out there.
