My ancient thorogood wildland boots finally toast after 15 years, 4 continents and 3 warzones. Nobody local can rebuild, thorogood farmed out their rebuilds to a place that charges almost what they cost new and cant guarantee availability of the proper sole and welt. After shopping around a ton, I couldn't find any US made at a price I could stomach. Did some poking and found these, which are at least union made by a staunch US ally.

Genuine article, quality is top notch. If you need a pair of stomping boots figure out your EU size and go for it. I wear an 11 wide on most lasts and the size 45 might as well be made for my foot, good fit with summer weight boot socks and room for thick woolies in winter. Old school unlined leather, beautiful material and excellent stitching. They're rebuildable too. Check the reviews on Varusteleka.com for comments and reviews on fit, they're out of stock but still listed.

One good thing about Europe rearming is their warehouses getting dumped out onto the global market.

I just bit the bullet on a pair of Thorogood’s, looking for US made boots. Ooof, tough pill to swallow. They’re nice boots but they be ‘spensive…. First time with Thorogood, we’ll see how they hold up.

Mine were good but Thorogood no longer makes a plain, unlined, extreme conditions soled boot. Their current US made lineup is pretty good but none of them exactly neet my anal retentive requirements. Hardly anyone does and I'm not ready to buy a pair of Whites until I'm old enough to die in them.

Still got my number? Hit me directly.

Or, follow that line backwards to either the boiler, or the water tank.
And take a pic of the pressure gauge on thr boiler.
And that isn't a bad system, and probably not as old as you think.
Not worth getting to something newer, the ROI/payback will be LONG.

Carolina is my go-to brand now for that setup. I can't stand boots with liners. Not quite sure what you mean by extreme conditions. I've personally never seen an unlined winter/waterproof boot. I have to wear steel toe/safety toe where I'm at, so Carolina is what I go with.

High traction compound on the soles, e.g. Vibram Fire & Ice - Chem resistant, anti-slip, aggressive lugs all at the same time.

Boots are my sore subject. I need a boot that can handle extremes. Wet, hot, oil, chemicals, waterproof, etc uninsured uninsured warm season, and then I need something insulated for the winter/freezers. I haven't been happy with a pair of boots in a couple years. I had a set of Timberland Pro that I was happy with(winter), but, of course, they stopped making them.

Wisdom of the ancients - get the best boots and best mattress you can swing because you're gonna spend most of your life on one or the other. It's really unfortunate that most workwear these days is basically disposable. Foodservice checkbox compliant shoes that blow out in a year has been a thing forever, but now even the industrial environment stuff is hard to come by if you want quality.

Back in my day, when gas was a nickel and there were only 151 Pokémon, they still made things that lasted.... /-:

Was it annoying walking uphill both ways to school in 4 feet of snow?

I DID walk up hill both ways to school. We lived on one side of a river valley and school was across the river on the other side. Downhill and then uphill both directions.

No, it was refreshing, it made me a real man unlike kids these days who want to have healthy emotions, a work life balance, and a body that functions past 50. Not to mention all this complaining about the dilution of democracy and the fizzling of the Enlightenment - back in my day we slaved for scraps, voted based on tribal identity, frittered away a hundred years of advancement, and liked it.

So my home/auto insurance renewal bill came today.
It costs more to insure my '14 Tacoma than our '19 Honda Odyssey? And the Odyssey was several thousand more $ new.
Anybody else have this kind of situation?

My truck was less than my 12 Mazda when I got it.

The nanny controls made it cheaper. Anti collision and yaddah yaddah. Plus I think I'm being tracked for recovery should there be any issues, or thefts of the vehicle.
