Get the OEM Toyota metal housing and replace that garbage plastic piece. Then use the MotivX tool and torque properly.

Note the bold in this statement.

I personally recommend buying the actual Toyota housing only. Don’t be a cheap a$$ and try to save fifteen bucks on an Amazon knock off. I say this because I broke a plastic cap that was over torqued using my Snap On cap wrench. I was in a bind so I called the local parts store and got a generic one that seemed so nasty cheap I did not use it. I kept the car overnight and got one from Toyota.
Be careful buying stuff on Crapazon, they list the Toyota number in the description leading you to believe it’s genuine Toyota.

Also, Snap On, Blue Point, Capri tools, and various others make a cast aluminum cap tool which fully engages the cap and works perfectly…….the MotiveX isn’t the only game in town when it comes to this tool.
Stay away from the cheap stamped steel type and you’ll be fine.

I bought 2 Lexus aluminum filter housings from Amazon, both came from Toyota dealers selling there.
I had bought a Capri tool filter wrench first. It engages the fins on the housing, not just the flutes.
On the last oil change I used a MichaelPro filter wrench. It is made from forged steel, not cast aluminum. Engages just the top of the filter hosing, not fins.
    I like it.
