Hi. I thought I asked this earlier but don't see it! I'm looking at 5100's for the front and 5160's in the back. 2011 Access cab, longbed with shell. Very stock...probably original shocks on it right now. I live in Baja. 16-30 miles to pavement and I want to soften my ride a bit. Will the Bilsteins I'm looking at make a difference? Are the reservoir shocks worth it? I drive in to town every couple weeks...empty going in and loaded coming back. Only constant is the road sucks.

The Bilsteins are digressively valved. So they’ll be bit firm at lower speeds.

What's the reason behind wanting 5100 front and 5160 rear? It'd be better to use 6112's in the front paired with those 5160 rears. Despite the valving mentioned by gotoman, the 6112/5160 setup will be a lot better over rough roads than stock suspension.

Tons of good info here to help you make a decision: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLv1-VB8s4vOvG0R49hIJ7lQbKEGnlPy-w

It could be they are super hard to get and even if you are on the list there is no guarantee you will get a set this year

Great you tube! I watched the "budget" comparison as well. 5100's did ok with the stock coil. I'm going to try that first. $850 each for the 6112's.......that's a big jump!
    Thanks for the advice!

do more research... i bought my 6112s from this company. this does not come with everything in the picture the only things i clicked where the front 6112s with the 600lb springs so no added money. and the 5160 rear shocks... i bought this same kit not long ago and then ordered a set of bilstien upper control arms oddly enough off rock auto for 150 cheaper then everywhere else.

you dont need the add a leaf if you are not truly lifting the truck! you can set the 6112s to level the truck with the rear end stock leaf setup.

the only thing different on this site now is the time frame they will come in it seems but even then its 2 weeks to wait for them thats not bad... not good but not bad if there is a shortage like back in 2020! which ill say right now 2 weeks isnt a bad wait time when back then i waited for months! to get a set of fox coilovers!

overall for 1k thats not a bad price for front and rear suspension. also if you havent looked at your upper control arms or replaced them you might want to look into that if they are old af with high miles. mine on this truck had 94k miles on them and were torn and completely blown out. unsure if they were original but they could have been.

I have been waiting for 2 months from headstrong & hotshot has said himself he has back orders from December and spoke directly with bilstein last week and they are ramping up to start making a run of them. I've called a dozen places and everyone is on backorder. There are numerous posts with plenty of people who have been waiting. Just curious who you ordered from so I can give them a call and get a set

Your screenshot is for the 2nd gen, I'm looking for 3rd gen

dealt with headstrong in the past and ya had the same issue with a set of fox shocks.. so havent been back
i ordered from shock surplus a few months back. if you have been waiting for two months thats stupid... i ordered mine in march and got them in 3 days.

was off on when i ordered but the point still stands.

also ya? you do realize its the same thing right... you can take shocks/coilovers from either one and bolt it on the other...
the only thing different is the amount of clips the 2nd gen has 5 while 3rd gen has 6 to help with the lean other then that its the same...

also this is for a 2011 so a 2nd gen truck...

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
For you down there will recommend 6112/5160 rear with a simple AAL. Check vilmont market I remember there was a set in San Diego for like 500 bucks.

Again, thanks all! Now I've gone down a rabbit hole comparing everything! I got this truck from a guy that only drove the road to town three times. He had it shipped down here from Oregon... didn't want to drive down himself. I doubt it's been put through much at all, other than highway driving. I'm going to look at the control arms anyway. When I say I drive back loaded I'm thinking about 500 pounds....ice, liquor, dog food, etc. Driving back with concrete, blocks, appliances, and lumber is over. I've never felt overloaded with this truck. Still think I need another leaf?

The add a leaf just lifts the truck. You won't need it if you just level the truck out. Now the leafs could be worn out and could all new set but that's another expense

Hi again. Ready to bite the bullet on the 6112/5160 combo. I was looking at one of the online suppliers sites and I didn't see my truck! It's a 2.7 access cab with the 6 foot bed. All I see is for the 4.0. Anyone with the 2.7 that's put those shocks on?

very nice! idk how well you will like them over the 2.0s tbh since one is more plush while the other is more stiff but the 6112 is beefier then the 2.0

i do wonder why not the 5160s over the 5100s?
