New Stumpy looking more refined than ever. They even refined out people who want shock choices, and mechanical drivetrains. :annoyed:

I thought SRAM would've introduced T-Type cable drivetrains with this new release.

    not enough.
yeah, proprietary components...and no option for mechanical. yeah, don't want to touch it at all. maybe they'll add in options in the future but the initial release is....blegh.

Really? Saw the emails but delected without really looking into the details.

Did they removal all cable ports/routing?
Overall frame profile looks pretty svelte compared to the outgoing model.

no ports for drivetrain routing, special shock similar to Trek DRCV, $5500 base model with that new sram transmission s1000 series, s-works no longer has a special layup and is $12k, no evo/regular split, I think that covers most of the key ideas haha

All the reviewers are acting like adding volume spacers is some profound new tech. Hasn't Scott been doing this for years with the Fox Nude shock?

I have zero interest in the new Stumpjumper.

I'm not sure if Scotts shock is the same - being able to swap spacers trail side seems kind of cool, but im not all in on it.

Jeez, they did away with the iconic Stumpjumper frame shape also!

The Nude has an internal slider that changes the volume on the fly, no spacers.

To be real you're not going to be changing them that often. I'm sure there's a happy medium to be had. Not sure how they're are pulling off the coil version though.

The lack of mechanical cable ports on the new carbon Stumpy’s doesn’t surprise me … at this point it seems like carbon buyers will also go electronic. When they come out with the aluminum frame I assume it will have cable ports. Or at least external zip-tie anchors :).

My understanding was that it’s got an inner and outer air chamber so once you hit a certain travel threshold the 2nd chamber opens/closes. I want to say specialized has it so both are open early in the travel to make it more plush then it closes and stiffens the shock up. Trek’s drcv was basically the same but I want to say it opened up later in the travel.

I think there is a reason trek did away with DRCV….

No thank you Specialized. We the bike people decide what is obsolete and mechanical derailleurs shall live forever. “Insert brave heart picture with freedom as the caption”

I'm torn on the new SJ release. It seems like a cool bike that falls right into the window of riding that I do. I'm not sure I totally buy into the idea that this bike (with the new shock) essentially takes away the need for the extra travel that the outgoing EVO had. I do think it probably is a nice merger of the 2 outgoing models though overall. The flex-stays weren't around long. I think the Epic being beefed up is too close to the old regular SJ, with them trying to make it snappier with flex-stays etc in 21-24. And the 21-24 SJ EVO was very close to the Enduro. So now with just 1 SJ in the middle, there is a clear path to the 3 bikes. Before it was maybe a bit cloudy on what to buy. I will say, I am going to miss the asymmetrical frame. I loved the looks of the offset bar. The new one looks generic, in comparison. I'm happy w my EVO either way, so im not in the market. But this does seem like it could be a hit or miss release because of a few decisions that were made.

I was at the Whiskey Offroad in Prescott AZ when that version was new, and I chatted with a friendly Specialized engineer who showed me the features. As a former mechanical engineer I was impressed with how he explained the structural logic behind the design of that asymmetrical feature. But I never bought one :).
