Wheel width help

I’m Thinking about upping my tire size to 32s. (275) I’m going down to a 17 size rim from 18. I understand the offset that I want, but not so much the wheel width. Going with a 0 offset. Been searching and watching videos all day, but my question really hasn’t been answered. Which is: what does wheel width effect? A lot of wheels I am looking at are between 8 and 9 inches wide. Could there be clearance issues if I go with the 9? Figured you guys could help me out. Thanks. (I have a 3 inch lift)

 

Width and offset go hand in hand. A zero offset on a 9” wide wheel has a different amount of poke and control arm clearance than an 8” wide wheel with a zero offset. An offset calculator really helps.

“275” isn’t enough info to tell it’s a 32 and offset and width are linked.


Perhaps just order whatever aftermarket wheels you like best (I’d go with FN Wheels) for looks that are made for your truck. Almost all aftermarket wheels are wider than OEM and most are all the same width so I wouldn’t overthink it. Oh and 275 width tires should fit any 17” wheel you buy width wise. So I’d order what looks good and do some reading on what tire sizes will rub and how to remedy that.

 

Width basically comes into play when calculating back spacing. A zero offset 9 inch will be a half inch wider inside and outside the wheel compared to 8 inches wide.
So technically it will affect how far they poke past the fenders as well.
If they are both zero offset, that does not change with different widths. Zero is zero.

 

So a 0 offset would be out about 1 inch from factory since factory is+25? Correct?

 

Draw it out on a piece of paper.

Your stock width, center line, then offset.

New wheel you want, center line.

It’ll make more sense spacial speaking.

 

Thanks. I was just looking at some kmc rims but then found out they are not good quality. My budget is about 1k. Any suggestions?

They will fit...I have some SCS 17x8.5 w/-10 and they are fine.

I had Wildpeaks....I went back to my 16" Rays. I sold the tires but have the wheels still.
