Door handle Came off????

OP, we need pictures.

 

Plastic explains it- I think it was a fluke as you were the first one with a 3rd Gen I ever heard of with the issue. So maybe the part was weaker due to manufacturing issues or something but it doesn’t sound like vandals did it.

OP, I would say someone ripped it off intentionally.

 

Had this happen to a Camry I owned. I think there was a little ice that had the door stuck and the cold temps probably didn't help. Handle wasn't pulled hard but it broke just like your pictures show. My local Toyota dealer had a color matched handle in stock for a very reasonable price. Seems like it took 5 minutes to install.

 

This is my guess too, as someone who's had his driver's side door handle ripped out in an attempted vehicle theft.

Those handles aren't very sturdy

 

Now I know why my dad always yelled at me for pulling on the handle before the door was unlocked.

 

Are not door handles spring loaded...

Thing definitely broke lol. If you can get the door open from the inside, they're fairly simple to replace at least, and not that expensive pre-painted from Toyota. Just need to remove the door panel which is pretty simple on these trucks.

 

Might want to lay off the Roids for a bit!
