Shinko and Kenda are both supposed to be good tires. I don't know anything about cruiser stuff, but I will say buying the more expensive tire has paid off for me. I got about 5-6k out of a rear Metzler tire ($150), while the $250 Michelin Road 6 has lasted 10k, and the Michelin is a narrower tire on a much heavier and more powerful bike (the Metzler was on the Versys). My friend has gotten 15k+ out of the rear of his Road 5 on a similar weight bike as the Versys as well.

Currentlly have two bikes in the stable, probably have a hard time justifying another one to myself unless I get rid of one. LOL

Always wanted an Ambassador or El Dorado.

just a couple of things tbh
if i remember ill watch it when i get home haha
the only street tire ive ran is the dunlop sportmax 300s i have on my sm wheels and they do great! i wanted another set but they dont make it for my bike sadly lol

thats good news on the shinkos thou since for me personally yes i get the tire is a very important thing and i dont cheap out on them but some tires are like 450 for two tires! thats crazy!
hmm interesting. i dont plan to ride in the rain since i dont like it haha but if i get caught out in it is another story. something for me to think about thanks!

so the tires im looking at are not exactly for cruisers they are similar to how my supermoto tires are. good life longevity in the center but sticky on the sides if you wanna have some fun on some twisty roads. unsure how that works with a skinny tire up front lol, i just hate the cost of the mtzler for my bike its 450 bucks for both tires then i gotta mount em and since i cant take the wheels off like my dirtbike ill have to take the bike up and if i remember correctly thats 120 or something a tire... i could be wrong on this number? i know for wheels off i paid 60 bucks a tire.

My old timer Friend is selling his 73 Eldo. He retrofitted a Convert motor - 949cc - into it. Brand new harness and front discs (all but the last year were drums). Another buddy JUST brought home a 69 Ambo 2 weeks ago, from the original owner!

It looked amazing! 13xxx miles. 10 days later... (just a little once over)

My 761's are pretty good in the rain, but the KLR is a world away from the FJR in geometry so it's like comparing apples and potatoes. LOL FJR's are planted and can track a line like its on rails, the KLR loaded, you can suggest a line but that doesnt mean it will follow it at 70 mph in a cross wind.

I dont think going away from cruiser tires would be a problem. Cruiser tires are going to be sportier than you would think. Real sticky tires on a cruiser with a fat rear and a skinny front can induce some handling characteristics that can give you an oh shit moment (at least they did me). I dont think they are dangerous, just maybe stress the suspension a little more than intended.

40 years ago I used to see a guy in Dallas on an Ambassador with the Wixom bags and fairing. he had 2 huge driving lights mounted to the crashbars. Looked like they should have been mounted on a Kenworth. He rode, rain, snow or shine, 20 degrees to 100. I was always envious, but then I would have never put a windshield or bags on my CB750 because it wouldnt look cool. LMAO My opinion of cool has changed.

Damn, if you lived closer I have a Nomar tire changer and would hook you up.

With owning 4 bikes now that purchase paid for itself pretty quickly. I know a few guys with the Harbor Freight set up with some modifications and that looks promising for the money.

When adjusting the chain, do you guys take it to the limit for tight or fall somewhere in between on the recommended range?

I think CycleGear is $25/tire if you take the wheel to them but you have to buy the tire from them.

Like @BkerChuck said if you were local I'd do the tires for you with my Rabaconda, though I do ask friends to take their wheels off if possible since I hate getting the rear wheel back on in most cases (unless it's single sided).
