I have a 2024 Tacoma and have heard friends talk about letting the turbo cool off before shutting the the engine 0ff, and also letting it warm up before taking off. I'm new to the turbo thing and want to make sure i'm not mistreating it. Any thoughts?

    Just got it
They say after extended driving at highway speeds , to let it idle for a minute when you reach your destination.

You remember when we were teenagers and borrowed parents cars, we'd get back and we'd hear the exhaust cool off: tic tic tic tic. That's bad for a turbo. I have to do 5 km to or from the highway at 50km/h (30 mph)', I just take it easy for that period and that's good.

in my vw cc 2.0t, the engine fan stays on even after shutting off the car to allow turbo to cool, new taco's with turbos don't have that?

Thing to watch for me will be pulling off the freeway at a rest area. I think I'll put a sticker on the steering wheel.

I think it's more the oil and coolant circulation that is needed. The fan just cools the radiator.

The manual briefly mentions allowing the engine to idle on page 187 after high speeds or hill climbing.

My dealership said 1 minute idle after "spirited driving" or through hills. Also, mentioned that this is specifically if you immediately want to turn off the vehicle. Something to know if you are on a road trip exit and 30 seconds later are at the pump for example, but if you have idled at a light or driven at low speeds to get home, to the gas station, etc. Not needed. Just don't get right off the highway after towing through the mountains and immediately pull into the pump and shut her off.

You'd think they just just install a factory turbo timer like the ones we'd put in turbo cars back in the early 2000's.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
You have a water cooled turbo, you're fine to shut it off whenever, they keep quite cool if you aren't driving like a circuit track racer.

They had a coolant pump to run after shutoff. I had this on my MK7 GTI.

Addendum is needed, for + size tires anything above a 285. 35s and 37s present on any 4G will void waranties.

I saw a MK3 Cabriolet the other day, it was the last gen Cab that got the MK4 face lift. All black with gold or bronze 15" sporty wheels. I thought it looked pretty cool I'd like to have it. Never really liked the Cabs growing up, as they weren't performance oriented and I don't usually care for convertibles.

If these are watercooled like suggested above they are designed to use thermal siphoning to move coolant through the turbo after shutdown.

The truck is a big computer, if it needed a turbo timer they would just have the pumps run for a minute after you turned it off…

some of y’all really like to make a mountain out of a mole hill
