Not necessarily, my first Tacoma battery didn't even give me a click. It was pushing 10 yrs old and on an ass freezing cold day however. I have power nothing so IDK about that piece..and unlike yours, mine didn't regain any power.

That said, having the battery load tested is a must. I've seen batteries croak in a year.

Maybe update the thread title & first post @Clinch Mountain Preacher ?

“My battery brand X went bad after two years.”

I wouldn’t call it Moby-Dick if it turned out they were actually chasing a shark called Bruce.

You’re going to need a bigger battery.

I'm still not believing it's the batt until they do a load test

I hear they have big scary batteries around Martha's Vineyard tho

This does not seem correct to me, I would definitely blame the remote starter (or a loose ground wire). If the battery was bad, it would not have suddenly started working after a little tinkering.

when the dealer tests the battery, they're clamping onto the terminal clamps, not the actual battery lugs. If there's a bad connection between the terminals and the battery, it will test bad, even though it's good. The bad connection could also result in the intermittent no-start.

Or...the battery could be weak too...I've seen plenty of batteries that test bad and still work just fine, or at least good enough.

Depending on where you live 2 years is a bit short for battery life. But it wouldn't be the first time.
I replace mine every 2 years regardless as it is hot as hell here.

So I suspect something was draining it if it is indeed the battery.

I mean, I am about 90 minutes from the 'Yard so....

Maybe it's not JUST the battery of course if it turns out, but no doubt load test the beast and at least see what that shows.

A dead battery coming back to life makes no sense.

To go from no click no start no door locks no dash lights etc to starting up right away with all accessories working flawlessly is something I've never experienced with a dead/dying car batt before

It doesn't, but anytime I run into a no start issue it's prudent to at least test it.

Of course it would be sweet if it's actually as simple as a dud battery. Will save me tons of money. OEM alternators and starters are really expensive nowadays

That would be a drain in the battery. The OP said it started in his first post.

For people that go into remote areas with their vehicles, you need a logical definitive solution. In this case the issue is intermittent, and replacing the battery may "seem" to work for a while, but not really be the solution. Pointing to the battery just seems like a lazy tech saying "works for me, just recommend a new battery to be safe".

A battery failure is generally not binary (it is progressive), and certainly does not rectify itself with a little tinkering.

I worked at an auto-electrical shop for 3+ years. I tested batteries, starting, and charging systems in the vehicle, out of the vehicle, rebuilt starters, gennys, and alternators, built custom harnesses, and troubleshot.
95% of the time with a vehicle that has an electrical problem, after we removed the aftermarket stuff, and got the vehicle to stock, the problem was associated with the aftermarket stuff.

perhaps it’s going to be time to change the title
“2.7 Taco left me stranded finally”
    to
“(Insert bad part) left me stranded finally”?

In addition to failing slowly, batteries can go bad very quickly if it’s an internal failure such as a broken plate, but it’s not that. Keep in mind a dead battery or faulty remote starter wouldn’t be the fault of your truck (unless it’s the alternator or charging circuitry). I think others are correct in saying it was probably the remote start or its cables. You didn’t mention the condition of your battery terminals when you disconnected it - were they loose at all? Also check the other ends of the cables, the ground and the positive terminals. Are they firmly bolted in or is there any corrosion on any of them?
