The added torque for towing is a gross advantage. Sure, you can't tow more, but it will be much more responsive while towing.

The Texas boys didn't hitch a trailer to it.

True, but regardless you should still feel that extra torque towing or not.

I like that one YouTube video of some guys saying the didn't feel the extra torque is now the base opinion of Tacoma world.

    LOL. No shit.

Sure comes in handy on a boat ramp though.

I’d love to see the power and torque curve on that 2.7L.

If you read my entire comment, I said that it was a disappointment, BUT I'm still waiting to hear more reviews as there is only one out so far.

Also, we are talking about a difference of 317 vs 465 in the hybrid they tested. That is a pretty big difference that you should be able to notice.

The teal color is the base map from the 2018 2.7 F150, it should be similar I would think on the new Ranger.

Hmmm, it looks like the fun stuff happens at significantly higher RPMs than on Toyota's new 2.4T.

I think it is just the way they have to run the dyno, this chart shows peak Tacoma wheel torque at 3980 RPM but we know it has a flat torque curve.

I'm not an expert in this, but they hold one gear for a run so maybe the feather the throttle at first so it doesn't downshift?

These are for brands as a whole, you wouldn't catch me owning a Ford car except perhaps a Mustang. I feel like their trucks are pretty good though, I have a lot of friends in F150s.

I definitely still lean to the Tacoma (or more likely in my case the next gen 4Runner) heavily. Of the trucks I've tested, the 24 XLT Ranger had a couple small things executed better than the 24 TRD OR (power folding mirrors is one example), but the Tacoma to me is undoubtedly the better feeling truck as a whole.

This conversation is happening on another forum where people who own 4th gens are plentiful. All the hybrid and pro owners say they can 100% feel the extra torque.

some and more and more and more and
Not to mention the very aggressive declining of resale value in the rangers along with the reliability as the vehicle gets older. They just can’t come close to the Tacoma.

That's how chassis dynos work. They don't start the runs until 2500+ and it takes a second to load a turbo car to build boost. The 2.7 ecoboost is stout.

I hadn't been to my local dealership in several weeks and since I was close, I stopped by to see what inventory they offered. They had about 13 Tacomas on the lot. 12 of them were the SR5 trim while the remaining was a TRD Sport. If they received any other model it didn't last long.

In all honesty, who cares how reliable a brand new car is when it’s under warranty. It’s much more important to know how reliable and problem free they are at 150k.

I kinda do, I didn't like my new truck being broke at the dealership for 3 weeks, and I missed out on an off road gathering that I was looking forward to attending.

Or, your shit breaks down in an airport parking garage at 3:00 AM in 10-degree weather. Regardless of who’s ultimately paying for it, that is no bueno.
