I was wondering if anyone knew what this chip does?

It was hardwired to my OBDII port, and I only found it because the dealer was unable to diagnose a CEL code. When they plugged in the scanner into the OBDII Port, there was power to the scanner, but no data connection. They did a bit more digging and found this chip piggy backed to the port.

The markings on one side is B3SA012Z and on the other side GK002 32F030FP6 CHN113RNA

    No idea.
It would help if we knew what wires it was tapped in to.

Right, that definitely would help! My bad - Updated original post to include the wires that are going into the back of the OBDII Port.

what does the blue wire go to? the gas pedal?

i can tell you there's no antenna on that side, so it wasn't the TRACKING DEVICE that everyone might think it normally is.

I bet it's some kind of "performance chip".
Honestly I would take it out, wire everything back together, and not worry about it anymore.
Dealership might give you crap about it because it affects the engine, btw.

It's tied into the CAN wires (Pin 6 & 14), Power (Pin 16), and Chassis Ground (Pin 4).

Who knows what it was for but it's not a good idea to tap stuff into the CAN Bus on a modern vehicle.

    It's a signal relay.

Thanks! I brought it to the dealer I bought the truck from, and they're the ones who found this issue. They sold me the truck with it on, so safe to assume the previous owner installed and didnt tell them when they traded the truck in. Dealership took it off for free and installed a new port and wiring hardness. I tested the new port with my own scanner, and it's working fine - I'll be checking it over the next little bit to make sure it still works.

The service manager was confused at what it is/did, and told me to tell him what it is if I ever find out lol

Are there any numbers printed on the board itself that might give a clue?

The 1 chip number comes up as a prgrammable ARM processor so it could be used for literally anything.

clear closeups of both sides of the circuit board would help a lot in identifying it further.

but i still suspect it's some sort of discount pedal commander off a questionable site from a questionable seller.

    No kidding!!!

PS: Here is a CCTV image of the dealer tech removing the chip! He had just been promoted an hour earlier from the lube bay.

Wow. That is definitely a microprocessor & low voltage signal relay. Pedal commander? Some sort of tune? Alarm?

Whatever it was --> GOOD RIDDANCE. That was a good catch by your dealer tech.

Looks like a CAN to serial converter. Below is an image of a CAN to UART device, which is similar. The largest chip interfaces the CAN data stream, smaller chip handles the converted protocol, and looks like a couple voltage regulators or similar. It's a protocol converter for something else to read directly.

Could it be for one of those obd readers you plug in from an insurance company to 'trick' it?

Well whatever it is, those 5 year old chinese kids are getting pretty good at soldering those circuit boards.
