all this about checks and balance and the government shutting down for a couple of weeks, and i havent heard anyone discuss this yet. what are your opinions about all this?

i have been in the air force now going on 6 years and i am completely okay with it. i have given my life to my career and country and if i have to lose a couple of weeks pay to help my country even more, i say go for it.

I guess that isnt as narrow of a topic as you were probably wanting as you are only talking about the military pay only.

I guess we will find out Saturday morning whether or not to go to work Monday or not.

in my honest opionion, fine, shutdown government and not pay federal employees...but the military?? pay them... they defend our country...

anywho... working in the Comptroller office, we had a meeting and alot of stuff still up in the air...but its leaning towards the shut down. we were given procedures and what not to do in the event that it does follow through... the marines on the other hand will continue to show up to work. non essential personel will not come to work and very very few essential personel will work.. the budget has not been passed, there is still a possibility that we might work under CRA to extend the shutdown.... but really?? another extension?.. just freakin shutdown for a few days already and save some money... oh btw, dont retro pay like what happened in 1995/1996?... ended up wasting much more money.

That is the key. Only one small amendment would be to retro pay those who worked through the shutdown such as the military. But for those that sat at home watching TV. That was just an unplanned vacation sorry for the convienence.

agreed. i have read about the plan to back pay everyone and it just doesnt make sense.

im a aircraft hydraulic specialist in the usaf and we havent had any discussion on what to do IF we were to shut down. i know from past experiences, we are mission essential and will probably end up working no matter what the outcome.

Serroosssly tho. How would the Republicans shutting down the Gov over outrageous Dem spending stop federal employees from getting their paychecks? Kinda sounds like someone is getting their news from an eight yo.

The military, national security operations, air traffic control, and the post office are exempt from the shutdown. You'll still get paid.

according to multiple news agencies, this shut down will included DOD as well. meaning the troops.

MILITARY OPERATIONS: Defense Secretary Robert Gates, on a trip to Iraq, assured troops they will be paid. “As a historian, it always occurred to me that a smart thing for government was always to pay the guys with guns first,” Mr. Gates jokingly added. Troops are typically paid twice a month, and Mr. Gates said that if a government shutdown began after Friday, troops would receive half a paycheck for the first two weeks of April. After that, troops wouldn’t be paid until a deal is reached in Washington to fund the government, although they would receive any back pay owed, he added.
Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell said on Tuesday that “we would still have the authority and the ability to continue key national security activities, including the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, operations in Libya, and humanitarian assistance in Japan, to name a few.” - The News Journal

The post office is also now supported by customer payments and not the government.
