it seems the fork stem mount just vibrated loose on my ride home and eventually vibrated loose enough to ejecto seato cuz. Weird because it was solid upon my check in the morning. had the vibration dampener, though i know that's mostly to protect the phone not so much the mount.

just got back from T-Mobile and re-activated my old phone so that's squared away at least. they didn't even charge me for the new SIM card.

I'm gonna guess yes, because I know I was in the carpool lane for the whole stretch before it went missing, but location shows it closer to the other side of the freeway lol. 5 lanes.

Hoping that it just landed and got run over repeatedly because I would hate to have caused any damage.

I could probably get 2 track days and a little street riding in before they're shot. The last ones were fresh when I put them on for Racer Days last year. They're still on the bike, but there's no way they're surviving another track day. Pirelli will be there offering tire services, but IDK if I'm better off doing that, or picking up one locally. Part of me hopes they'll have some decent deals for the track day participants, but part of me also thinks they can charge a premium for the convenience.

Extra security and 2 factor authentication is great. until you realize you've made your accounts too secure, and your only two email accounts secure each other, requiring access to one to get into the other, if no phone. Phone being one factor...other factor being an Authenticator app on my destroyed phone, or a code emailed to the other account. So now I can't access either email for a month since that's the period microsoft requires before you can change the recovery email for an account, and I had removed my password as a means of getting into the account as an extra measure of security.

sorry for the dear diary. pretty frustrating lol.

You should look into a yubikey or similar physical verifier. I use one for two factor at work and love it. Just leave it plugged into my dock most of the time and touch it when I want to two factor into anything. Similarly, Okta or Google verifier that you can be signed into on multiply devices has worked well for me too. I try not to two factor to a phone or email if I can avoid it.

Hindsight.. 20/20, all that yknow. Too late now but for future reference.

hm good to know I'll definitely look into that. I had password, alternate email, phone, and an authenticator app. Turned off passwords for security...and the authenticator app can only be logged into when my email is logged in via QR code to link them.

A physical verifier would have definitely prevented this problem lol

I had the stupid authenticator lock me out of my Gmail. It wouldn't send an email to my recovery email and had my old phone number. Stupid.

Eventually created a new Gmail then it finally sent the recovery email as it should have.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it, I had a feeling you would!

As for mods mostly just ergos and protection. I'm with you on the bike already having plenty of power out of the box.
    - Attack rearsets
    - GB racing case covers
    - Evotech sliders
    - Folding levers
    - Rental fatbar
    - Track dongle (persistent ABS/TC settings)
    - CF swingarm protector, pillion seat cover, gen2 tail fairing, tank guards
    - Gen2 seat (same shape but it has a nicer cover lol)
    - Modified RBW throttle housing for a much lighter pull (previous wrist injuries are starting to add up in my old age). This was by far the #1 quality of life improvement for me. I have the same thing done on my Africa Twin.
    - misc safety wire
    - Preventive stuff - drilled a drain into swing arm (because it's a 2014 that didn't get the revision), added tank padding to help with the rad bending
    - Street mods that I've taken off since it's dedicated to track now: blaster rear tail light (got tired of repairing the mounts on the OEM), Yoshimura fender eliminator, Rizoma bar end mirrors, Rizoma signals
    - Biggest expense so far has been 2nd set of wheels and a spare subframe

Things I want but am having trouble finding or am working on the budget for:
    - aftermarket clutch slave cylinder (I don't use the clutch very much but my OEM one is on its way out)
    - aftermarket rear shock
    - fork internals (might push this one out since I've been pretty happy with the updated valving I did)
    - fibre glass belly pan
    - fibre glass tail with superbike style butt pad
    - LDD dongle (remove the annoying light error warnings)

And currently working on either a number plate or fibre glass nose piece in place of the headlight.

I recent learned of this guy on YouTube, some great content https://youtu.be/lUntEojRVfc?si=hktdgjj1ErRtf_Q8

In other news I mounted the pipe on to the Africa twin and drilled out the db killer. It's glorious.

Its also for reasons like this I wont ever put my primary phone on my handlebars. Jacket zippered pocket or in the locked top box while moving.

the funny thing is a handlebar mount probably would have stayed mounted, albeit loosened and been swinging from the bars. . fork stem mount only had one place to go once it got loose, and that was anywhere but the fork stem. but yeah. I only really ever used the mount for navigation around town for work, usually it's in a front pocket...knew I should have pulled over and removed the phone once i was on familiar roads but since i was about 15 mins from home I figured whatever. I'm more pressed about not being able to get into my emails now for 30 days but it is what it is. At least I know my emails are secure lol :bananadead:

Another minor annoyance: my old iPhone X front camera doesn't work for FaceID, and that's the first model they did away with the fingerprint reader. Not a huge deal but certainly a small hassle
