Gonna make this thread my bitch.
Rooting around the garage I stumbled across this completely useless weed puller, and the handle was just the right diameter, plus of a harder species.
And just like that, new handle of a much more use-able length of 36" open and 28.5" folded.
Much better balance this way, might actually get used now. Any doubts I had about the handle not being firm were dispelled when I removed the softwood prototype, tried to hammer it off, didn't even budge. Had to cut it off and then drill it out.
Nifty hole in the end so some Paracord can be tied to it and then swung about in case of attack.
Replaced the rivet that was originally drilled out to seal the deal.
For scale. Matches the bike well.
And ran across this little gem. Also has a hatchet head that attaches to that handle. Absolutely the most dangerous camp tool ever sold as the hatchet head ejects randomly and the shovel has been known to disconnect at the most inopportune moments. At this time, I have no idea where that head is, I searched for about an hour out of OCD curiosity. It might have been in the Scout when it was sold a decade ago.
Since I have become so adept at shoving round pegs in a round hole, I stuffed this 1 1/16" dia. dowel into a 1" hole. It ain't going anywhere. As a bonus, it has a bottle opener on the shovel head so after you bury stuff, you can pop a cold one.
I'll pack this one on the bike for those extended trips.

Remember that shortage of ZYN? Retailers are now out of stock on most flavors. Better get it where you can.

I personally like them better. Everyone else complains about them being weaker and flavorless compared to Zyn.

For a while they were just giving away cans for free too

I like the cinnamon On, still buy it. Can is a pita to get into while driving.
it's pretty close to cinnamon flavor.
And that's the problem, everyone's idea of flavor is just a bit off. And fuck any of the citrus flavors, gag, yuck.
Lucy makes a pretty good product, up on the higher end of price. The mint/wintergreen is good, the cinnamon tastes like apple pie, disappointing in a nicotine product but tolerable.
I have a can of mango on the way to try out.
Fre', that shit has a good taste but will prolly burn a hole thru your lip over time. Super cheap though.

Late to the post... but couldn't agree more. Skipped the fireworks this year and went out for some quiet time.

not that you have to disclose this publicly but where were you guys able to find peace and quiet camping over July 4th week/end?

I figured it’d be a madhouse up in the mountains.

    DHL. Sucks.
Package for delivery tomorrow, is now showing up today. Departed from Athens, Greece on Thursday.
Signature required, I'm not there. Click link for no sig required and do that.
Couple hours later, email saying package delivered. Yay.
    Get home, no package anywhere.
Spend 45 minutes trying to get someone at DHL. Score AI chat.
Repeatedly tell AI to get fucked until it connects to a person.
Start chat with live body, trade information, etc...
    Sir, your package was delivered.
    Ma'am, it's not here.
Sir, here is a link with a picture.
"clicks link" Not my house. Blue house, white trim, yellow door.
My house, white, brown trim, brown door.
    Ma'am, that's not my house.
Sir, please go outside and open the package and see if it's what you ordered.
    wtf????????
    Lady, that ain't my house.
Sir, did you check with your neighbors to see if they have it?
    Me>Are you kidding me?
So I drive around, thinking that yellow door should stick out like a sore dick.
No houses in my hood with yellow doors. None.
So they are starting an inquiry, I'll never see that package.
For the record, I requested UPS for delivery and that is what the waybill shows, but somehow DHL got their mitts on it.
I have emailed the 3rd party shipper who did this and asked how they are going to make it right.
Fuck this country and it's complete lack of accountability.

Had this old bed net from decades ago when I bought the 1st gen. It has been sitting in a tote for a long time and was still in good shape.
Knowing that I would never use it as intended again, I repurposed it.

Took about an hour and one finger blister to get apart, then made this jig and did a weave.

Ended up with a 14" x 14" thing and 3d printed some clips.

4 hours total and I ended up with this thing that I could have ordered from Bezo's for $8.99.
Somehow I can't help but think that mine might be better quality.

Update, the package showed up as I was typing this, driver apologized and said the other recipient knew me and called him to come get it.
#1 Where did she get that number to call the driver?
    #2 I don't know her.
#3 Props to the driver for getting it to me. There is some accountability in the country after all.

I went up to medicine bow. Never been there before but found some trails and explored. Ended up finding a quiet spot and took it. Put a log across the entrance and was able to relax. Only heard maybe 5 or 6 trucks drive by and didn't see anyone really.
