Completely understand. I might try calling the dealer and seeing if the service desk can maybe confirm though.

I haven’t yet had to replace the spark plugs on my taco, but I’m a bit surprised the spark plugs can’t be bought at a local auto parts store (eg napa). I’ve never bought spark plugs anywhere else. I’ve never heard of anyone buying spark plugs from a dealer. They are commodity items.

Why? Toyota does not manufacture spark plugs. They outsource that to one or more of the several spark plug manufacturers. Spark plugs are a commodity item and a very good example of something you do not need to buy from the dealer.

Buy where you want. Can't go wrong with an online dealer as you are getting the OE part but not paying the local dealer price. I just checked for a 2019 Tacoma 3.5, densoproducts.com has 2 plugs one is 11.33 and 15.48. NAPA wants $3 more for the one plug and $6.50 more for the other plug, same part. A lot of problems caused by non OE parts, especially anything emissions or computer related such as sensors. Honda used to have an ad, "A car is the sum of its parts." So why buy non OE to save a few dollars if any??

Spark plugs are not an OEM part in the same sense as, for example, a lower control arm. Toyota outsources the manufacture of plugs to one of several manufacturers. Year to year they might not use the same manufacturer. The same plug might be used in multiple different engines manufactured by multiple auto manufacturers. Please correct me if this has changed since I last worried about replacing spark plugs. I think people are over thinking this.

Also, ordering from denso is not the same as ordering from the dealer, which is what I was questioning. If you prefer denso, I got no problem with that. Pick your favorite manufacturer.

I’m old school so I usually just drive or walk to the closest auto parts store.

I bought my plugs from my local dealer but recently ordered all new front brake pads, rotors, calipers etc from Lewis Toyota out of Topeka, KS. Not local but free shipping and no tax

This looks like a decent price.

I get my OEM parts from PrestigeToyota in NY...and I also like SparksToyota.

Key is to buy the OEM part, not where or who it is bought from. Except maybe Amazon or flea bay where knock offs are sold. I have never seen or heard of any plug other than Denso or NGK come in a Toyota or Honda or any other plug per the manufacturer be recommended as a replacement. My Tacoma had 3 Denso in one bank and 3 NGK in the other bank from the factory.

I don’t think that’s important for commodity parts not manufactured by Toyota like spark plugs, brake pads, light bulbs, oil, etc.

But irregardless, I see no reason to drive 45m to the dealer to buy denso spark plugs as the OP was implying.

I’ve bought a lot of NGK spark plugs for my Japanese automobiles and motorcycles, but none of them from the dealer.

I'm a tech and I'm fairly cost conscious with parts.

I never suggest buying spark plugs online unless its obscure.

What’s wrong with buying online? You can buy Toyota OEM parts online.
