50+ yrs of riding, the following was one of my earliest Harley experiences.

I was 15 1/2 yrs old, summer time in the mid 60's in SoCal, riding my first bike a Honda S90 wearing my typical summer clothing, shorts T-shirt and no helmet. Yup, no helmet law then, not even a separate motorcycle license back then. A permit made you legal to operate a motorcycle on the street. When motorcycle licensing began you were grandfathered in if you owned a motorcycle.

Anyway, back to my story. I'm stopped at a red light and I hear a deafening roar as about twenty Hell Angels wearing their color's pull up all around me and in front of me. They never looked at me, they just kept raving their engines until the light changed and they sped away......I just stat there at the green light and watched them disappear down the road. Scared the poop outta me.

My Z is the equivalent of your FZ1. Since having a family we haven’t been on a bike together. When my kiddo is all grown we will again some day. She loves riding with me. She isn’t Davy enough to ride herself though.

Sorry to hear that. Had an accident myself. Gear makes the diff. I tell young riders who make fun of me. Ride long enough accident will happen. You’ll never say, gee wish I wore less gear.

Same not worth the trade money and fun factor it has for me. The Z1000 is a great but older bike now. I’ll just add another to stable again at some point and have two bikes lol

 I bet they loved that. They think their sound is tops too. After I opened mined up some, not even all the way. Some like to mess then I mess back and they realize bike is more than it seems. Don’t mind a good HD. A shotty owner though is a shotty owner.

Ha once I got away from carb it was great. The Z was that for me. Would like a more comfortable bike for even longer rides. Did about 300 yesterday which was fun but a couple extra amenities but more comfy mostly would be nice. Economy has to chill first before I can get another.

I used to make fun of the Harley riders, especially their bikes Their bikes were big, heavy, slow, poor cornering with terrible braking. I then taught motorcycling for 15 years and met hundreds of new and old Harley riders. They were wonderful folks who just like me loved motorcycles and enjoyed bikes, but in a different way than I did. My way was really no better or worse than how they enjoyed motorcycling, just different.

No doubt FI has spoiled most of us, myself included. Last week I rode my Buell to work all week and on a nice ride last weekend. Put more miles on it in 4 days than all of last year. First ride the float kept sticking and dumping fuel out the overflow tube. Fresh gas and flogged it a little and now all is good. Biggest issue with carbs, in my experience, is letting them sit and not using them. They don't take well to storage. FI is more forgiving.
