Most of these are gone, as I found this some time back on DIYMA and they were buying them up... there are some still available, and who knows, maybe they'll add more soon. The consensus on that site was these are pretty good amps, at great prices.

Here's a nice 5 channel (I know it says 4 in the specs, it's incorrect) - pull up the pdf spec sheet... that would make a nice system (not for me, as I'm not going with rears, although I'm getting a 5 channel in the hopes of moving to active someday) for the average person.

    here's all the items available....

Now that I look at it again, there's really only one refurb amp with the refub pricing... before there were 6-10 different amps at amazing prices... keep checking, maybe they'll add more.

Completely OT, but go active now! Or in about a month. Audison is going to release some new processors in a bit, and they are supposed to be 5 channel processors, most of the goodies in the Bitone, and I think they will start around 400 bones.

Also, I dont know if they are still doing it, but Crutchfield was clearing out some GTA series amps from Boston too. Cannot link, as I cannot get there from work...

Yes I know, active is better. You are quite the evangelist - however most people here aren't even close to that... or wanting to spend the money on one, not to mention trying to tune it. I would like to go active, just not sure I want to spend the money...

Which one would you say is the cheapest that I could get away with? I might actually splurge on a really good 5 channel Massive Audio amp If I go this route...

Ya, I saw Crutchfield was... however the Boston site had their refurbs at ridiculous prices...

An evangelist? wow. And here I was thinking I had mentioned it in one thread where a guy was talking about running through a 30 band eq, another guy asking about a budget system, another when asking if a guy was running active or passive for his crossover settings. Ill try to tone it down a bit on this forum. Its hard, because I spend a lot of time on audio sites... But yeah, I am a proponent for someone willing to kill some time working on it. It is cheaper (can be if you shop for quality drivers instead of pre-packaged high end stuff) and much easier to swap stuff out if you need to once you get into it.

Budget is really up to you, and what you want. If you want to go cheap, you get a deck with active crossovers and time alignment built in. $200 bucks should not be difficult, and then you can get some nice drivers for under $100 bucks, or use existing drivers you already have. Thats the fun!

If you want a double din, or fancy deck, and need to go external it gets more expensive - an Alpine PXE-H650 or h660 are probably the cheapest way (I did a thing over on DIYMA for these from Car toys for $100 bucks or so...) but they dont give you 100% control.

An Alpine H701 can be had for about $250-300 bucks, but you need an alpine head unit to use it, or you have to buy a controller.

After that, you get into stuff like the Zapco DSP6 (loved it!) Audison BitXXX series (for 5 channel, the new Bitten looks AWESOME) and these seem to sit at $400-$450. Also the MS8 from JBL is in this area, but you lose a lot of control, but can run active with its built in tuner.

Right now I think the Bitten, a new Alpine H800, Arc Audio is about to do one, and I think Zapco is about to do an 8 channel.

Its really all about what you want to spend, and what features you need.

I already have all my gear, which includes passive components. Unfortunatey, my HU doens't have active and TA, so short of replacing it, I'm eyeing active crossovers, but want to keep the expense to a minimum as the bills for all my truck mods are piling up (don't we all know!).

I've been told a dsp would be the least expensive path, but don't know much about them... was told specifically:

    MiniDSP 2x4 RevB | miniDSP

    +

    2way Advanced | miniDSP

Forgot about those! Erin on DIYMA (bikinpunk) did a full write up on those. Steven here (ItalynStylion) is using one in a separate, non-car project, and could give you some info too. The user interface is really nice, and quite easy to use, IMO.

Also, dont forget about the work on a case, and power supply.

I'll take a look for his writeup, however can you put it in a nutshell? DIYMA is where I received this suggestion... I spend too much time there... and here :)

I bought the GTA400 amp off Crutchfield for $150. I was pretty happy about that. Its running my JL 10w3v3-2 really well so far!
