Been a while since I've been to a transfer station, but I have definitely encountered that at scrap yards.

When we were cleaning up the house for our move I had some questionable stuff that I needed to get rid of. The transfer station is only open on Saturdays and it's staffed by an employee of the trash facility next door.

The guy didn't care what I dumped as long as I got it in the correct dumpster. Rusted out burn barrel? That goes in the metal dumpster. Things like that made emptying the house much more quickly. :D

Interesting morning while driving to get coffee. Saw a 2024 Land Cruiser, looks nice. Then I saw my first Cyber truck, that looks horrible. What a contrast.

Got my first good look at the Cyber truck out here in San Diego yesterday.

I like the utilitarian aspect of it. Looks like a turd and is super expensive and will take your fingers off.

    But practicality is pretty cool

Except its not really practical at all, even when you ignore the price tag.

My field guy in LA has one. I was looking into the bed of it and someone hit the tailgate release. It popped out and the far corner hit me square in the chest - fucking hurt. Mediocre interior with horrible lines and overcomplicated controls to everything. Good luck trying to clean the dash board it's about 3 feet deep. The ride height adjustability is cool, as with the 4 wheel cornering. We took it on some dirt roads and I couldn't really tell the difference between "overland" and "baja" mode for suspension, maybe just travel or something. Rear view mirror is useless with the bed cover down and the computer picks up ghost pedestrians and cyclists all the time however I hear that's just a tesla thing. Definitely can't fit three grown men in the back without it being super uncomfortable.

Overall - meh, however it looks like it'd be great for target practice.

edit - also don't paint them, it brings out the unevenness of the sheet metal.

From everything I've seen online, Tesla's body panel fitment makes GM's look good, and the overall vehicle quality seems really hit or miss.

Just watched a video where on a brand new Cybertruck, the washer fluid was leaking behind the "frunk", and the cabin filter cover tabs snapped when they tried to get to the filter.

Disruptive! Throw out all those frumpy, musty auto industry practices and start from scratch. Don't be beholden to 100 years of lessons learned the hard way.

The one closest to me closed and the guy who ran the scale house there was always just looking for a reason to chew someone out. The other one is further away, but they're great to deal with.

Cybertruck. Austin area is infested with them, which makes sense since they are built in the Gigaplant in Austin. BTW, that factory is close to a mile long from end to end and they are adding on. Most of the trucks have the stainless finish, but I've seen a few with either glossy or flat black paint. I got a close up look at one at a car show and was less than impressed. It's a statement truck, and the statement is "I don't do any serious hauling." It fails the 4x8 plywood test.

Trash. Where we used to live changed the rules just before we moved. Increased the price and everything has to be in a trash barrel. At least we didn't have to buy town trash barrels and there is no limit on them. They now charge to pick up appliances, won't take any sort of TV, and charge to take mattresses away. $100.00 for a large mattress, I think $75.00 for the smaller sizes. $25.00 for the box spring, which is much cheaper than commercial haulers.

Where we are is better in most ways. You can haul stuff to the recycling center 5 1/2 days a week, no charge. They won't take any wood, but there's a wood recycling company down the road. You can even bring paint. They have a large shed where they put it and people can come and take any they need. The city provides trash and recycling barrels. Plus you can put out up 18 of those big black plastic bags and they'll take those too. I'm not in to recycling but I put bottles, cans, metal containers, and cardboard into the recycling barrel because it acts as a second trash barrel.

You can also bring stuff directly to the landfill, but they have some strict rules. All loads have to be covered, people in the vehicles have to wear yellow vests, and I think hardhats. They'll refuse the load and fine you $50.00 if you show up without the load covered. That's the county, not the city, but it's still weird.

I saw my first Cybertruck about a month ago, in NH. I was surprised how much more obnoxious it looked in person.

For trash, we pay Casella around $40/month to pick it up. 65 gallon toter for trash and another 65 for no-sort recycling. The transfer station nearest to us would charge us an out-of-town rate and by the time you pay that and for the bags it's not that much cheaper. It's nice to just wheel it out to the road and it disappears.

On another note, I'm not having the best luck with my little Kubota tractor. At about the 10 hour mark, the fuel pump failed. Dealer was good about it and picked it up, swapped the pump, and brought it back. It's been fine since.

Today, at around 20 hours, I have another issue. I take the loader off to mow and when I put it back on, it started leaking really badly. It's a block of four hydraulic lines and I think just one of them is the cause, but they all go on and off together. There are alignment pins and a locking lever/pin. It's pretty tough to mess up. Still, I pulled it off and looked at everything and don't see anything obviously wrong. Put it back on and it's just as bad, I've probably lost a quart of fluid so far.

I loaded it on my trailer and I'll call them tomorrow to see if they have the space to take it in. I'm hoping it isn't something I caused somehow, but at the same time if it's another fluke warranty repair it seems like I've hit bad odds on a machine that is usually very reliable.
