I figure I’d ask here in case I get lucky. I’m driving a 2000 Rav4, front wheel drive. Between 35-60 mph I’m getting a rotational groaning noise, similar you what the needle bearing on 4runners/Tacos would make with a particularly bad bearing. The noise is independent of throttle or gear. It changes only due to vehicle speed.

I checked wheel bearings, no play on any of the wheels. Also, the rear wheels spin like a top and are completely smooth, the fronts are smooth but they have a tiny bit of brake drag. No CV leaks.

No obvious signs of a cooked intermediate shaft carrier bearing on the passenger side.

Am I missing something? Do these things have a needle bearing issue too? Lol

    I'll shoot 1st.:quickdraw:
With a vehicle of that age, have the rotors or calipers ever been changed yet?
Thinking there could be something warped or sticking that you wouldn't hear or feel rotating by hand.
Could be as simple as an alignment or unbalanced tire.
Did you try rotating the tires to see if it changes?

It's also quite possible you've been spoiled with that 4runner and that's just what a 2000 RAV4 feels like?

So... you know that girl at the coffee shop. The one that looks a bit rough around the edges? Lots of ink and piercings? Maybe some scars. Dresses edgy. Hot though-like damn that is a beautiful young lady under there. No way you would take her home to meet mom, but would be a fuckload of fun at a party or concert? That girl? That is kinda how it felt seeing my truck this morning after a couple weeks away. No wonder my daughter won't drive it to school...

    So. Many. Stickers.
Sounds like your front hubs. RAV4s and most Toyotas are known for you being able to hear the hub before you feel any actual wiggle in them. By the time you get wiggle on the wheels, you should have pulled over 500 mi ago.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Speaking of...how are the front fenders? Or did you leave right after they arrived?

    We've all been there.
Just wait till you get the new fenders installed. Your truck will look like it has big ol fat hips.
The girl at the coffee shop is looking pretty good now.

Serious now, it just needs TLC.
If you need a newer factory front bumper, you can have mine.
My truck just got a new windshield.
It's the only part that doesn't have scratches.

I left. Hoping to have them done for Tigerton, but depends on body shop and the weather here... I need some dry so I can get them fitted and prepped. Hoping to get to that this week. We shall see.

I wish Mother Nature would make up her mind.
I went for my morning walk and it was sunny. On the way back it started raining.

Sunny again, went outside to do pond clean up. Clouded up and started raining. I didn't like being out there holding a rake with a 11 foot handle.

    Now it's sunny again.

Timm in MO probably has it covered, but I’ll add that when I recently bought my mistake of a Honda CRV it was the tires. They looked good but were a little on the older side date code wise. I thought it was a bearing, put new tires on and noise was gone completely. That was a new one for my own experience.

This is hilarious but also I’m kinda into ladies like that. Guess it’s a good thing my parent both live 1,000 miles away now. But glad your truck still excites you that way. Wait until them fenders go on, your wife will divorce you for all the naughty looks you’ll give er LOL

So despite some thunder rumbling in the distance I went out and got a start. Right fender is on. Took some swearing. Antenna is a no go as I refuse to drill a hole but the lines look good and she is tight. No more annoying rub at a (nearly) full stuff! Lots left to do-inner fender liners, some grinding to get the bottom to match to the door gap, and then all the prep for paint...

Thanks again for the bumper offer. I am having the kids make one next year, so it won't matter for long...
