What do you guys use for rain gear? This will be a "just in case" deal. I'm looking at the Rev'It Cyclone suit. I had a Frogg Togg and it ripped the first time I used it. Hi-Viz is a must as I want to be seen if I get stuck in the rain.

"High viz" yellow is the new urban camouflage. I'd rather have red.

We got rained on during most of the ride to Devil's Tower, but it didn't bother me too much. It'd sting a bit because the Marrakesh jacket basically does nothing for it, but with the hardwares on I didn't feel uncomfortably cold. I did have a camping rain coat, but didn't see the need.

Believe me, I see the irony in what I'm about to post...............................but I hate red

This is really more for riding to/from work.

I have that exact suit. The crotch seals on mine have started to leak. Jackets ok. I've used them maybe 30 hours total. I still use them because I find all rain gear kind of sucks, or it works too well and you're wet from sweat instead.

I do have to half cheek to touch the ground so I dunno if that put too much wear on the seals. Planning on running a repair strip on it and seeing how long that lasts.

Had to go north of me to return moto gloves at cyclegear and decided... Screw it I'll continue the ride north another 10mi to just south of Carpinteria and run the stupid little 50$ RC boat I bought for a kicks n giggles for the houseboat trip I just did. First time in the ocean, ran for 45 min!

My God I was a giggling kid, surfing waves, jumping it etc was a blast... women hate how little it takes a man to be happy. Unfortunately no pics of the moto. But it got me there I promise!

I keep Frogg Togg pants and jacket in the KLR pannier, never had a problem with it. The other bike it depends on the weather and what I am doing. Either a 20 year old BMW rain jacket with either Marsee adventure pants or if it's cold, First gear HT pants with liners and either the BMW jacket over leather or a first year Olympia Airglide (the insulated liner is waterproof) and while the jacket is cold when the shell is wet, a Gerbing liner warms it up nice and toasty.

The Frogg Togg is getting a little worn, thinking about picking up a Nelson Rigg Storm jacket. The suit might be dryer though.

I have the Nelson Rigg Stormrider suit. It is actually waterproof in my experience. I had a Bilt one piece suit that leaked a lot and Frogg Toggs seem to be made of paper.

I have some Rev It stuff similar to the picture. Jacket was gifted to me and is about one size too big but functional. Pants I just bought recently when they were on a close out sale. Worked well enough on the one time they were put into use other than the jacket billowing a lot since it's larger than I would have bought. I used Frogg Toggs in the past and found they held up really well and did keep me dry. The material in them feels really flimsy but I never ripped them or noted any damage and they got used pretty hard.

forgot to tag @BkerChuck so he could see the buel but i see he already like the post haha

ill add sunday is a fun day for me and her usually since we go to blip and then go and try a new place to eat to explore more of kc area since ive never really done that! well both places we went to last weekend were a complete flop! prices super high at the breakfast place and the food tbh was subpar and very very little portions for how much you were paying! went and tried a boba place that someone was raving to me on and tbh a gas station could do it better... we did have a great time at least thou! just proof not all places people say are amazing! truly are haha

also i do plan to play with a few of the pics to try and make them less dark. gonna ask the dude who took the pic of us and see if i can get the raw image if not no big deal tbh.

    Thanks fellas

The Frogg Togg is out for me. My 1st and only experience was bad. The pants ripped as soon as I threw my leg over

This will really just be for a 6 mile ride home from work.

so if you are going used a drz400 will be fine (if 4k and under). if you are going new get anything tf else! for real.... the drz400 is a tank and will normally always run without issues but they are top heavy and tall compared to other dual sport bikes out there plus dated af... the dr650 from everything ive been told is a great bike nothing fast nothing crazy just a oldschool dead reliable bike to puts around on.

+1 on the Ventura system. I've got it on the GRiSO and have had a few opportunities to use it now. A camping weekend and my recent Ashville NC 1000 miler. Been completely happy with it. Surprised you don't see/hear more of it.

    upload_2024-7-8_9-3-39.png

I had the same experience with the Frogg Togg's. I have a Nelson Rigg set. Inexpensive and it worked during the monsoons of my last road trip. TBH, my takeaway was that if life allows me to do serious touring or even regular commuting, I'm going to Duluth to size an Aerostich suit. No knock on the NR suit, but they're really just to get you off the road when you get caught. Not for any real mileage. They don't breath, and the other compaint I had was the suit didn't have means to limit the flapping of excess fabric. Velcro on the sleeves etc. But as a low volume emergency suit, I thought it was fine.

I was actually thinking of going this route.

On a couple of bikes what I've done is mount a ball in the place of one of the stem bolts and used the ramball mounts. Have had no problems, but I was thinking a bit more minimalist would be good.

Agreed. The drz is a good bike for what it is. A used ktm 500 would be in the price range for another 1-2k also though

yes, and no. That's part of the appeal is the versatility. It flips 180 degrees. When you're solo you can have it 'hover' over the pillion, the weight and volume is within the std footprint. When you have ass in the pillion position, you flip it so it rides like a standard tail rack/trunk.

    upload_2024-7-8_9-21-24.png

Then, for camp trips, you remove the rack entirely and throw that little loop on there for your 'local' riding.
