Is the rear end whine a known problem with the 2010 Tacoma like the newer Generations? Mine whines above 55mph and starts to quiet down when letting off the gas. The truck has 145000 and the rear end fluid has been changed also have had a new set of Toyo open country stock size tires. Thanks for your input.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
    Center bearing, maybe.

No. I have a 2010 with 240k Km and no issue with the rear end.

The 6 lug trucks don't seem to suffer from whine as bad as the 5 lugs did.

Since it doesn't do it on deceleration, I'd be incline to believe it is a pinion bearing issue.

FWIW, depending on how bad the whine is, some guys just drive the truck.
I've seen them go a LONG time with a quite whine that never got louder.
I'm not telling you to ignore the issue. I'd see if it gets worse and inspect the fluid.
Either way, the fix is a new/rebuilt carrier and gear set. That is, if it is the rear end making the noise.

Would I be able to hear the rear end whine with the windows down? It seems I only here it in the cab with windows up. Also could a set of new stock size toyo a31 open country standard street tires cause the sound I'm hearing, I don't remember hearing the sound before new tires?

I need to correct myself here.
While looking up info on a subject unrelated to your issue.
    I found the following TSB.

I'm not afraid to admit when I'm wrong.
Evidently, there were enough case with the differential to have a TSB on it.
I will say, I haven't seen or heard of many cases myself.
