Dealers were not even accepting Tundra's for trade-in either, that has to weigh in on purchasing one in the first place.

I saw that. Even if it is just a 100k early models, just the rumor of it or show of the issue and upcoming fix issues its gonna be hard to turn around and resell these early Tundras for what people were probably hoping, especially since alot of these guys paid sticker or over when they first were the hot ticket new thing.

I think people who buy Toyotas for the long haul still like the resale value, and if you trade often poor resale value isn't any good.

The 1/2 ton market already isn't the best market to be in, and Toyota knows they aren't competitive when it comes to volume in the segment.

This could be the biggest event in recent automotive history if everything goes wrong for Toyota. I hope not.

Truck sales have really cooled across the board. The economy has people cutting back on shopping for vehicles, there's little enthusiasm from buyers. People have also cut back on spending money on modifications, one place Toyota wanted to cash in.

I personally wouldn't potentially gamble my money on a 2024 Tundy based off the web essentially saying: oopsie the 2022-2023s were bad , but 2024 is all good!!

I'm weirdly cross shopping 4th/3rd gen Tacos, 5th/6th gen 4Runners, and then maybe F150s or 2025 Camrys
I should probably wait for the new 4Runner so I can make the most informed decision

Are people paying MSRP on 24 4Runner Pros? I saw one listed for $58k. I know it's the last hoorah for old school BOF Toyotas, and 5gs are still desirable. I can't see anyone paying $58k for one later down the road.

If I went 5G it would be used and really only to sell in a few years to get what I really want. The 5G is a reliable tank but it has old bones

That is coming from me kinda wanting to sell my car now as I'm mildly fearful to put high mileage on my WRX, but there isn't much 4G Taco inventory to be picky and test drive exactly what I'd want

5th gen 4Runners powertrain is now 20 years old. If dumping miles on something is what you’re looking for (without much care of running cost) that’s what I’d pick.

2025 info should be out soon, I don't expect any changes accept for the 6G 4Runner being all new. I'm not sensing much excitement for the 2025 Toyota truck release. People don't want to spend money on trucks right now.

My folks had a 2016 and put over 206K miles with just oil changes, you would have thought it had maybe 30k miles on it if you didn't look at the odometer.
I don't like the terrible MPG, nose dive under braking, and body roll. Things I know the 6G would improve on, at the cost of an untested/unproven iteration

Yea it is probably best for me to sit back and wait for the market to keep cooling off. I won't be doing any more AWD launches in my car though haha, I'll keep babying it. I feel like most owners don't crack 100k miles on the stock clutch like I have, but I've been a lot kinder to mine than the usual driver

That’s significant b/c Australia is arguably the most competitive market for midsize trucks that you’ll find, albeit the Aussie’s are still getting the old Hilux.

We can rightly point to Ford’s crazy recall stats, and that’s probably enough for me personally to pass on Ranger. But…as they sit on the dealer lots today, I’ve sampled both and the new Ranger is a serious headache for Tacoma, even before the 2.7’s arrive. The big advantage for Toyota is that Ford can’t produce as many Rangers domestically, and with soft F150 sales, Ford may not even want to compete with Tacoma on sales volume.

More Ranger sales could potentially steal F series sales away, and they don't wanna lose that title of best selling truck in America for 4X years in a row. I received a call from the Toyota dealer I test drove at, he had a TRD OR Premium Hybrid incoming at $57,998 MSRP. It's a cloth interior without the 14" screen even, Gulf region sure loves their PIO. I haven't called back to let him know I pursued other truck suitors.

F150 is now down under, it’ll be interesting to see what it does to mid size sales.

if it takes off, will Toyota offer a half ton truck in that market too, or is the 70 series Land Cruiser enough to fill that gap.

Ford don't want to lose F-150 sales, I don't think Ranger could sell more units than all of F series if Ford built just as many Rangers as all F series. The 4dr super crew being the only configuration available limits itself to who will buy it, same thing over at GM. This is why I think they made the 4dr SUV the only option. The GM twins recently recieved a recal for unsecured fuel pumps.

Fords F series sales get a massive bump from fleet sales. They pretty much own the work truck market since they are better at it than anyone else.

I very much doubt the Aussies had a hand in any part of the Tacoma at all. TNGA-F started in NA with the Tundra and LX, and we now have 5 (soon to be 6 with the 4Runner) products on sale with that platform before the next gen Hilux has even been revealed.

The Maverick has been outselling the Ranger ever since it was introduced.

with all the negative press around the Tacoma, maybe the Stout (Maverick competitor) will become a real thing after all.

The nosedive is easily solved with better front shocks. Those soft shocks on the Offroad trims are way too soft. Downright dangerous.

I forgot to mention the Maverick before, Ford sells way more of those than Ranger. I think I see more Bronco Sports than Mavericks on the road. I almost want to pick up a Maverick could be a good time to that, I think they do alright on resales value. I only want a FWD for under $30k.

According to J.D. Power's data for reliability, Ford products are #22. Lexus/Toyota are #1.
