I have a 2017 off-road sport, the transmission cooler lines underneath the front of the car, underneath the fan have started to corrode and are slightly leaking, If anybody’s experiences before, are you guys replacing them with the same same hardline or switching over to rubber?

Y 2016 had that issue 2 years back. I had seen oil on my driveway so I took it to a local shop where they said it’s the hard lines, they quoted me a price using oem lines, I took it to Toyota and since it’s part of the drive train I was able to have them replaced since I was under 100k, the dealer declined until I stood there and had them call Toyota, 2 escalation they were replaced for FREE. Minus my frustration. Find the Toyota drive train warranty, print it out and carry it to the dealer. Be firm but nice, never win by causing a fuss.

I hate the dealer, never went, I don’t think I ever will, like you said frustration. It’s a toss up between the oem hardlines and a braided set, thinking about the rubber, I guess I’d have to use a piece of hardline to act like an inside coupling which doesn’t sound great

I’d Just get the OE steel lines, most nitrile and SBR (“rubber”) won’t last long with the heat, and “braided” is usually PTFE lines which doesn’t play well with sharp bends and probably isn’t any, or much, cheaper than the steel lines.

Yeah, I’m probably gonna go this route and maybe coat them with some sort of rubberized coating

it's a good idea to get the whole underside sprayed with some type of rust preventative,, although many suggest NOT using a rubberized coating, as it can trap in moisture and other road treatments. I use Krown and the whole underside, including inside body panels is coated,,, you could kill two birds with one stone.

You sure thats the source of the leak? Granted it doesn't look good, but the lines above it are also soaked.

Also for what its worth, Id avoid rubberized coating. Seen it fail more time than I care to count.

Oh yea, I’m sure, I cleaned underneath with degreaser, then wrapped the suspected lines with an oil absorbing rag, drove around and everything stayed dry…..except that absorbing rag. I didn’t see the flex seal hurting, worst case I have plenty of tubing to replace it with.

also you could buy the pipe and a bender, or shops that build hydraulic lines could make the pipe part

Yeah, that was the price that I saw, once I clamped the hose onto the hardline I really gave it up twist and pull and it seemed pretty solid.

]It’s a pickup, not a high performance car, I used what I had available at the time‍ at 1/3rd the price, same result in. The end to the leak I had, plus it’s more fun making the part than just buying it!
If this were a “Jerry rig “I think it would be made out of copper or maybe vinyl tubing haha. I literally used the same material that Toyota uses, but What do I know, I’m just a simple man trying to make ends meet

good job.....some of us dont have the time/know how/resources to do it ourselves so the oem is easiest for us, so that is our first response on how to solve it
