Had a 2017 and its leaps and bounds better. The 3rd gen auto trans is the worst transmission ever, especially when loaded with weight

My 16 and 17 were terrible compared to my 19, 20 and 22, think you just got the worst years. The 4th gen I drove isnt "leaps better" but its defintely smoother. The hard shifting transmission reminded me of my 16 and def not better than my 22. Power delivery was alot better for sure.

Fair enough, just think OPs original question was geared to people who actually owned one and lived with it for a while vs. just test driving it

Deposit and parts ordered, on fence still, being very indecisive with this one for some reason.

I still love my 4th Gen after 2+ months of ownership. I would say more than my 3rd Gen, but I also loved that truck (and this one is still new). The power and overall smoothness of the transmission and ride are much improved from my 3rd Gen, which had the KD Max Pro tune. The build quality is also great. The seats and interior are better as well. The ride height and bigger size have taken some getting used to, since the 4th Gen can’t be tossed around as easily as the 3rd.

My only complaint is the aluminum on the truck. We periodically get hail, so that concerns me. My 3rd Gen survived a serious hail whipping that I don’t think this one would have.

I think the 3rd Gen is a great looking truck, and I feel the same about this one.

I will say that I got my first two harder downshifts at very low speed just yesterday. I didn’t like that, but those two were nothing like the 3rd Gen downshifts (even after the tune).

Good write up and honest review, only hard shift I get is when I first take off after cold start, if I let it warm up for 5min it shifts perfect, I love the truck !

It probably is a better feeling truck now . But is it 20 k better . That’s what you need to weigh out. Also it is a beautiful thing when you current truck is paid off and it still looks good and runs well. I will stick with mine for a while .

Nothing wrong with that, and def a solid financial decision. I made the mistake of getting rid of my 2017 and wanted to get back into a Tacoma. There was $12k difference between my 2017 and 2024 Sports. Not $20k, but still too much. The price is def a tough pill to swallow with these, but there are real improvements.

Having that Tacoma resale value is a great thing, too. I paid off my 2017 in 2019, so I know what you mean.

Saw a 50k 2024 4TH Gen Mall Cruiser Tacoma on the dealer lot and a 55K 2024 Tundra. A no brainer.

It’s amazing how close the prices are now between Tundra and Tacoma . The Gap is not that far.

Good to know about the rough downshifts. Have a friend with a 17 that still does it coming up to a stop and the diff just howls at 58mph. I really wish I would’ve waited for a 2020 so I could have apple car play and adjustable seats with by bad lower back.

This is all good stuff to know when considering. Im sure the rough shift will get an update to fix.

Dare I ask if anyone was tempted to touch the 2024 Canyon / Colorado fire? Im not ashamed to admit they look pretty dam good.

It's pretty crazy how the 4G and the '24 GM's look so similar....

That they do. It might be gimmicky, but I like the idea of the builtin tail gate cooler!
